I understand that these results shouldn't be taken too seriously, but using them as a guideline, what minimum local exact results would you say for what value of product?

Like for 100 local exacts you wouldn't want it if it was 'real tyre pencil case' however you would want it if it was 'Jaguar xjr insurance' (just an example)

Edit: should add, by purchase I mean hand-reg :)

Probably the lowest I ever go for is around 200. I think 1000 to 2000 is the sort of areas that becomes interesting to look at more closely.

Stephen.

What kind of item would that be though?

Higher value item, lower searches required to be worthwhile or not?

I understand that it always depends on the search, but this for example:

best iphone 4 price = 200 results

is far better than

barbie doll costumes = 400 local exacts

Due to the buyer being in the final stage of purchasing, all you need is a few affiliate links with a good price and your set.

The reason I ask is I have been filtering a hell of a lot of domains and there are some pretty damn nice ones, I just need to filter them down without kicking myself later :)

I'd say neither is worth regging as both of the names mentioned contain trademarks, so you're leaving yourself open to a DRS action.

Better to go for purely generic names than infringe on other people's trademarks.

Sorry TY, I didnt make it clearly, those 2 domains were completely fictional examples. My domains that I have in mind do not infringe on any trademarks.

Ok, better example time, lets imagine you were a template seller and were expanding your business (with me so far ;))

If these domains were available, which would you pick?

outsourcetemplates - 320 local exacts
templatedesignprices - 390 local exacts
affordabletemplatedesign - 480 local exacts
canadatemplatedesign - 590 local exacts / mo
francetemplatedesign - 210 local exacts / mo
templateguidelines - 140 local exacts / mo

Its a similar situation to that, but my domains are obviously superior :) again, all number made up, purely for an example.

I wouldn't register any of those names - especially the France and Canada ones - what's the point of them on a .co.uk extension when it gives you no benefit in France or Canada?

In your "fictional" examples it might be worth getting a bit closer to what you're actually trying to do rather than being so coy about it :)

Eg if you're trying to sell something then <something>Guidelines.co.uk isn't going to be as useful to you as Buy<something>.co.uk or Cheap<something>.co.uk assuming that they have similar figures.

Haha, I just exaggerated the distanced.

Ie, If I was a copywriter, but didn't live in london, could I still use londoncopywriter.co.uk to my advantage since it can be dealt with entirely online.

I think this thread has served its purpose, too many factors to make a rule so I will just by them all and dump the ones I dont want in 2 years.
