Looking for EPP setup

Off the shelf and ready to go, as an alternative to Nominet online services.

If at first you do not succeed ... skydiving is not for you.

No response, so still looking for EPP setup.

Not sure if your looking for actual code of an alternative option. Chris (@aquanuke ) runs DacPanel.co.uk which is an alternative.

The problem with EPP Script is the EPP is HUGE and most the functions are rarely used, so most people (myself included) write scripts which do just the functionality we need, and then add to it as we go.

It maybe easier if you specify which functions you require specifically, and someone may have that, whereas they may not have a complete suite.

Thanks for suggestions and info.

Nominet online service is tedious for frequent changes, and even worse with restricted or slow connections.

EPP seems to be a replacement for defunct Automaton that DAC Panel and similar services used. Is anyone running a public EPP service apart from the dropcatching aspect?

Main functions required are,
ns update, transfer, release, renew, unrenew

@RobM has coded most of that into DomainView. Given his reaction speeds and willingness to explore the market place with auctions, parking, lists, etc. It maybe worth giving him a nudge and see if he can make a few changes. With most of the features already implemented, I don't think it would be a huge task, if there were demand.

I wasn't aware dacpanel used the old automation.

Funny you should say that. I'm actually working on an epp manager right now which allows access to polling and all epp commands etc. Hopefully up and running in a week or so.

DomainView is very handy for the EPP functions even if you do not need a dropcatch service. So much quicker than the endless screens of Nominet OS. Well done @RobM.

EPP Manager sounds like an ideal solution. I expect many Tagholders will find it useful.

Another vote for @RobM I've used his system for a couple of months now and he's put up with my questions way beyond the call of duty. I also dont think ive ever waited more than about 20mins for an answer/ solution.

The timing looks very good, now Nominet have said 2FA is mandatory from mid-may, I suspect many will want EPP solutions. May even be worth Rob making a stand alone script version to sell as well for people to run themselves.

2FA isn't affecting EPP.

EPP will be an attractive alternative to 2FA when it becomes mandatory - hence good timing for an EPP Manager
Is using 2FA such a hardship? (genuine question). Just a more secure way of protecting assets is it not?

My phone isn't always with me, isn't always charged and doesn't always have a signal, that's just addressing issues with the "device".

Nom's website is slow, very slow, a nightmare to navigate and awkward to use. Now you have yet another thing to slow you down even more which is dependant on having a device present, powered and able to use it. 2FA alone isn't a hardship, but in the nightmare of nom's site, this maybe the deciding factor for people to say F'that.

I find myself using Robs site to do my renewals, I do transfers using my own script, and pretty much only log in to the turd to pay my bill.

Fair enough, I'll have to ask Rob about trying it. I guess you just get use to how things operate and accept them, but would agree that Nominets system is slow to navigate, even when you know your way around it.

Personally had no issues with the 2FA on Nominet, then again I use 2FA wherever its available. Guess its just dependant on your workflow.

Technical nit picking @Skinner, you don't need "signal" to use token based 2FA, similar to the the oldskool RSA tokens, they didn't have "signal". But I get your point re "not always having device and charge" - mines just always with me.

For quick changes, I'm another one that uses @RobM 's system - its quicker to use his system to update the name servers on a domain, than to use the Nominet interface.

Some of the Nom UI is well thought out / implemented... some of it, you find yourself screaming "who the f##k thought this was a good way of doing this?!". Even registering new domains on the fly, I tend to use Rob's EPP section for... so much quicker to register a .co.uk + .uk pair... on Nom that process drives me insane...

I don't have my phone with me half the time, and like most people I'm lucky if my phone lasts the day power wise. If I use waze/maps/tomtom sc/etc, its drained in no time.

Its funny that google suggest printing one-time codes to keep with you for emergencies when you don't have your phone. While I'm doing that I thought I would write my bank pin number down too.

If their site wasn't so shockingly bad, it wouldn't be a major issue, but the problem with issues stacking up, people say f'it over the small stuff, because sooner or later they've had enough. For me, the new nom site was the point where I said feck that. This is just another reason, if I'm forced to use 2Fa, I'll just go back to phoning them to pay my invoices and a combo of my own scripts and robs :)

Well stumbling block unfortunately so will now be delayed. It turns out that the lists of domains and contacts on your tag that nominet provide are not up to date. Nothing more annoying than seeing domains that have dropped still in your list or domains you have renewed still showing as expired. I often wonder why they bother providing 'tools' and never quite making them useful. :p Their suggestion was to log in and look at them (as it seems they don't use their own provided lists)... kind of defeats the purpose of even providing them really. I will get round it but whether it's worth the effort or not I don't know.

Hatchet job of a solution, speak to nominet and see if you can abuse the whois2 relevant names by date ? Not ideal, but given they created the fault. I can't see they would have an issue with it. You could even use the clients whois via whois2 if they have an issue.

As i said hatchet job :/

Just to let people know - nominet have been extremely helpful in this. Turns out some lists are updated once per day at 3am but others are live queries. Just a matter of using the right ones. Don't often say this but thumbs up nominet for great customer support.
