I've got several separate hosting accounts with WebHosting Buzz.

All of a sudden, today many of them were down.

I wait a bit, and they are still down.

So, finally I contact support. Apparently, they changed their name servers and my sites are down because I did not update my name servers.

Given that I've got about a dozen different accounts with them on several different emails, you'd think I'd have received at least one email notifying me about this change.

I've asked support about this, and all they can do is apologize. That can't give me any details of when the emails were sent, nor can they show me where this is posted on their website.

Very poor form!

Now I was just told by support notice was sent out 2 months ago about this - except one account I signed up for on May 20. Doesn't make sense.

From the chat:

At the beginning of our chat you say customers were notified 2 months ago - I just signed up for the xxxx account on May 20, less than 2 months ago, and was given the old name servers only. What's up with that?

Tomislav S. I apologize sir if you did not receive the notice about this.

Is this WHB or Jolt ?

I haven't been notified of a name server change, but my accounts have been moved to jolt and using abstractdns still.

Wondering if jolt took the better bits with them, or if its jolt too.

This is WHB - in the US.

I think Jolt is their UK/Europe brand.

My sites were on abstractdns as well. They seem to be moving to nsxxx.webshotingbuzz.com - this is the US though - UK may be different.

Jolt separated from WebHostingBuzz last year and we run it differently.

Funnily enough, I received this email today from WebHostingBuzz. Even stranger, since I have a chat transcript saying that this had already been done and were notified 2 months ago:

We have migrated our DNS service to a new physical infrastructure in May, and the time has come to decommission the old name servers. All domains, which are still served from the old DNS system, will be rendered unavailable, and all DNS data will be lost. This means that you may need to take action in order to prevent any service interruption. Please check the name server settings for all your domains hosted with WebHostingBuzz, and make sure the settings are correct.
What do I need to do?
If you use shared nameservers

If you are using WebHostingBuzz current nameservers, ns100.abstractdns.com and ns101.abstractdns.com, you will need to update your DNS server hostnames to ns100.webhostingbuzz.com and ns101.webhostingbuzz.com. This will need to be done at your domain name registrar and each registrar has their own custom procedures. Please contact your domain name registrar for additional assistance with these changes.

ns100.abstractdns.com → ns100.nsresponse.com
ns101.abstractdns.com → ns101.nsresponse.com

If you are using WebHostingBuzz nameservers, but nameserver domain is one of legacy domains (anything within "whbdns.com" or "abstractdns.com", such as ns100.whbdns.com/ns101.whbdns.com), you will need to adjust nameserver settings in your domain registrar admin panel and make sure your nameservers are set to ns100.nsresponse.com / ns101.webhostingbuzz.com.

If you use private nameservers
If you are using private nameservers customized for your domain, such as ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com pointing to our nameserver IPs, you will need to update your custom private nameservers to point to 204.93.202.81 and 204.93.198.52. This will need to be done at your domain name registrar and each registrar has their own custom procedures. Please contact your domain name registrar for additional assistance with these changes.

ns1.yourdomain.com → 204.93.202.81
ns2.yourdomain.com → 204.93.198.52

You should be safe if your private nameservers are pointed to your hosting server IP addresses. No action required in this case.

How long do I have?
Old DNS servers will be decomissioned on July 1st, 2016. Thus, all changes must be completed prior to that date.

The migration just completed. Likely not surprisingly, the migration was a dog's breakfast.

After the migration was complete, I checked my websites, and two of them were not working.

I spent many hours trying to resolve this, and so did technical support at Web Hosting Buzz. Some progress was made in resolving the problems, and in fairness to Web Hosting Buzz, they did respond promptly to all support requests and did seem to be trying hard to resolve things.

However, after 24 hours and both my websites still down, I decided to move these 2 sites to a new host. The move was not perfectly smooth, but each website took less than an hour to move and then was running smoothly without any need for me to get technical support.

I really don't understand why Web Hosting Buzz's migration messed up my websites or why they could not fix it. As I said, they did seem to try hard to fix things and were responsive. So, I've got mixed feelings in leaving them, and still have several hosting accounts with them, but not sure I could recommend them.

Which host did you move to ?

Namecheap - I've never used them before.

Funnily enough, the websites that I did NOT move away from webhostingbuzz are now down, and have been down for over an hour:

Emergency
maintenance

Hello,

We are sorry to report that we are currently having issues with hardware in the data center.
This is causing our help desk to be inaccessible as well as our nameservers.

We are working on resolving those as quickly as possible. At the moment, there is no estimated time to resolution, but we’ll keep you updated as soon as we have any news.

We are sorry about the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while we are working hard to resolve this.

This is their brand new, super shiny better than ever, etc that they moved to over the weekend :(

UPDATE - problem won't be fixed until tomorrow. More than 24 hours downtime :( At least the two sites I moved away yesterday are working - wish I had moved everything away.

UPDATE 11:13 EST JULY 5TH]
Our hardware SAN in our cloud environment has failed unexpectedly. Replacement hardware has been emergency rush ordered from the vendor to replace this, however the current ETA is next day delivery at best. We are working on alternative solutions in the mean time to restore services. I apologize about the downtime you are experiencing.

Services Affected:
– All domains using WHB DNS’ cluster will be unavailable during the outage or until a workaround is put into place.
– The helpdesk, https://support.webhostingbuzz.com/, is unavailable for the duration of the outage or until a workaround is put into place.

What’s next?

Our team is working to speed up the hardware delivery or implement an alternative solution to restore service, at least partially, in the mean time. If you have any comments, questions, or concerns please feel to contact us directly via our LiveChat link on our website https://www.webhostingbuzz.com/support/

I'd certainly never use them, they seem to have more downtime than most.

Pretty odd to such regular down times.. I am with Webhost UK , For more than 5 years now and a never had such long 24 hours downtime without support.

But you of course own them (Sameer), you've promoted them in almost all of your 75 posts, so...

Websites finally seem to be coming back online - 47 continuous hours of downtime!

You always has an option to move to the new host. If I were you I would move to the non EIG brand like eurovps or hostingsource or any other trusted host.
