Does anyone use any 3rd party online invoicing software? If so what would people recommend? - I've seen quite a few but they all look more intricate than I need.

Ive used 17hats.com which was pretty good but I started using my existing WHMCS install to do custom quotes on top of the normal work load, custom quotes then allow you to convert to invoices for automated due date reminders, PDF invoices which have customisable templates etc.

Xero - used them for 4 years now and the product and app are outstanding.

I use KashFlow for my accounts and have configured various apps to push data via the API to generate & email the invoice whilst updating the accounts at the same time, saves me hours over manual invoices, but still have the ability to quickly create a manual invoice for the one off jobs. I also use WHMCS as suggested above for hosting and contract support customers (again with a bit of custom code to push the invoices & payments into the accounts)

Used to use clearbooks - but their huge price hike a few weeks after their huge "crowdfunding/investor beg" soon killed any enthusiasm so moved 4 accounts away.

Now use Kashflow :

Good solid system - a couple of minor niggles - but that's probably just me and being used to my own CMS systems that allow me to design and develop EXACTLY the way I want to work.

I use Blesta. Not bad, huge improvement on not using anything but its Yanky software and so has idiosyncracies with counties/postcodes and stuff. Sounds like I'd have been better off with Xero. But now its setup its no work and changing would be.

Really I'm just after something that I can interface through an API and these packages, although good, are too much for my needs. I'll just program it. But thanks everyone for your insights.

The beauty of my solution is that there's nothing to do in order to keep the accounts in sync as the invoice is created by KashFlow, can you not do something similar with your accounting system?

Will try the free trial of Kashflow and see how I can implement it. I must admit it looks very convenient and probably does far more than I'm aware I need :)

Rob - the Xero api is excellent. It's how we run our whole business.
