P2 to p9 in goog for keyphrase

Over the last 6 weeks my OH's site has gone from page 2 to page 9 for a two word phrase (2,900 exacts)

It's not a product but business news site that has a handful of competitors who have pretty much remained where they were position wise.

One thing I have noticed is that the BBC now has plenty more listings for (related business vertical) articles whereas before there were only one or two references to bbc on the first few pages. (not enough to push us down 7 pages though)

Anyone care to suggest some of the most likely reasons for the demise?
