Any opinions on which is best?

Depends on how you will use it, types of games you like to play and various other factors.

The main things that you should consider are:

What do the majority of your friends have?

Which is more important/will offer more value to you a blu-ray player (PS3) or online multiplayer experience (Xbox).

Xbox 360!! been and done the ps3 and its poo compared, especially playing online, ps3 network is still down!!

It's for my kids so a mixture of games really.

I really have no experience of either so appreciate any recommendations.

just remember that to play online on the xbox you have to pay, the ps3 is free to play online but you get what you pay for and as you dont pay for the ps3 you dont get anything at the moment

plus you can get kinect for the xbox, your "kids" will love that and it will give them some good exercise

Xbox for kids definitely, better kids titles, better controllers, Kinect and much more younger players online.

PS network is free, blu-ray useful and visually it's always better but it's for the older gamer imo.

I bought a XBox 360, then all of my friends bought a PS3!! I would say if you have friends with one or the other, go with that as you can play online against them etc. With that aspect removed dthough, I'd probably say XBox360.

Xbox 360s have also been drastically reduced over the last month so can get some really nice deals on the new slim line version.

I'm also in the xbox camp, no need to worry about personal details getting nicked, more extensive games titles and better online dedicated servers.

Although if you like car games then the PS3 has Gran Turismo 4 over xbox...

I would say xbox 360 too just prefer them.
