I have an existing website under its own Domain name call it (Domain1) and I have been rebuilding it under a different Domain name as a Wordpress Theme (Called Domain 2). now I'm done I want to transfer the new site under Domain 2 to Domain 1. Both are hosted with Heart Internet but I can't find anyhting that easily explains how to get my WP files transferred to he origianl Domain name. Any help or advice appreciated. :)

You can do this easily with the Backupbuddy plugin from Ithemes however it will cost $80 for a licence.

Not sure of other ways to accomplish it easily

Edit: Just saw Chippy's reply so maybe that will be better for you!

All,

thanks for the quick responses. I'll take a look at these options you've given me. Much appreciated.

More help please

OK. Suggys, thanks for the advice I got it to work with the duplicator and transferred the site (after a bit of figuring out) as I'm no expert.

I have another problem now.....links to my old site: oldsite.co.uk/page.php are returning a 404 error. I set the new site up using wordpress and the pages have the same name but I'm guessing maybe the file extension is different? I can't see how to change it in wordpress. I've tried 301 redirect in the .htaccess file and that didnt work and ive tried a couple of 301 redirect plugins and they dont seem to work either. Any help welcomed as ever.

Thanks in advance.

I have "Simple 301 Redirects"

Easy to use.

You put in "/page.php " on the left and "http://www.newsite.com/page" on the right and it redirects

Are you using any other SEO plugins & security plugins?

I'm not an expert like yourself and don't know how the duplicator plugin works but the first thing I'd try is making sure the permalinks are the same as what they were. I don't know whether it would make a difference or not but that's where I'd start.

Thinking about it I think there was a post somewhere here the other day about permalinks not working correctly and somebody (can't remember who) suggested just going into the permalink settings and clicking save without changing anything, so maybe try that.
