Hi guys,

I'm looking to purchase a new smart phone for work as my Nokia E71 feels more like a tumor in my trousers then a phone.

I travel around a lot seeing different clients, so I need something that will keep me connected to the internet most if not all of the time. (Need to access intranet and work emails.)

Having said that, I'm not looking for something flashy, more something which will do it's job well. For example, I won't be taking pictures of potential client's cleavages, so a 5mpx camera is not necessary.

The iPhone is a definite no-no for me as I already have one for personal use. I was looking at HTC and wondered if anyone could share any experiences with their product range?

Thanks,

For smartphones there's really only 4 worth considering: iphone4, htc desire, se xperia x10, samsung galaxy. I'd stick to either android or apples os.

A friend got the htc desire. Nice phone. It's the one i'd go for.

Thanks,

I had a look at the xperia in the o2 shop the other day and I really was not impressed by it.

The desire does look nice but that kind of defeats the objectives. However, I might take a closer look at it as there seems to be some highly positive reviews on it.

Thanks again,

I have a Nokia X6, it's very responsive and net is quite good, I had to get use to the full touchscreen though after 2 years with my Nokia N95 8GB
( I miss it ) :(

ps. it does have a 5MP camera, you just never know when you might need it ;)

I replaced a Windows Mobile with the Desire, it is so much nicer to use, the only drawback I have with the Desire is the loss of the facility to sync Outlook notes / OneNote with it. There are facilities to sync via Google's services, but I don't want everything pushed onto servers I don't control. There are some 3rd party solutions, but I've not explored that fully yet.

I've set up the Eclipse environment for development and this works well, I just need to brush up on my Java a little bit, but 1st look suggests Android is a well thought out framework with huge potential.

sounds like you need a blackberry
if not then the x10 is a great phone

Perhaps, I already have the Blackberry Bold 9000 (albeit not in use). I found it slow and unresponsive at times.

Does anyone have the Bold 9700? If so, what is it like for receiving e-mails ect?

Thanks,

Second to none for receiving emails, as you would expect.

Will also be able to run OS6 which is due to be released by Rim soon.

I wouldnt have any other phone that's currently available tbh. That said, the new 9800 looks like a dogs dinner.

Same here, I moved over to the 9700 from the Bold 9000 (which I did like but was a tad too big in the pocket)

Just out of contract now and there isn't a phone out there I would have instead so I am keeping this and going on a sim only blackberry plan.

I like HTC EVO 4G because it includes the Google mobile services such as YouTube, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Voice, Google Maps and more.

Search for exact phrase "YouTube, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Voice, Google Maps and more" = 326 results

Lets mix it up...
"YouTube, Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps, Google Voice and more" = Zero

"Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk, Google Voice, Google Maps and more" = zero

etc etc

Wierd that, no?
