I have never quite understood why we don't use .uk as well as well as .co.uk other than for monetary reasons, where they are going to wait until .co.uk's totally gone and then open up .uk to rake it in.

I also don't get why we have .gb and don't use it ?

The general population is just about getting used to .co.uk

All second level tld's have a 'meaning'. If .uk is opened up, who gets priority? A sticky mess. I'm sure it got shouted down at board level a last yr / yr before.

Still. Deeply concerned with the current Nom issues, and just as concerned with the actions of both camps.

I can't see it changing much in the short term, I would like them to define their use of "domainer" though as when following non-steer almost everyone seems to have a different take on it.

Perhaps you should read BERRs take on 'domaining' in the last 3 paragraphs of the document entitled '32906_uk08_A_Government_Perspective' 21-11-08, in Nominet's Digital Assets.

Yes I know. I'm one of them that's hopefully making them think twice before making it a blanket usage.

I'd like to really know where this power struggle is?

The part at the end was particularly interesting, where he talks about concerns over Nominet being run by and for a small group of domainers whose interests don't necessarily coincide with the wider public interest.

In contrast I wonder what his view is of the particular interests of UK banks and their stakeholders set against the wider public interest?
