Well in all my life I have never come across a stranger happening in domains. The other day it was apparent that it would be good to reg a 1 word domain and a 2 word domain .com This was for example apple and applepie. I went to reg "apple" and that had been regged the night before and was regged from 4th december 2006 to 2007. I then regged "applepie" as second choice. Something made me check "apple" today,I dont know what but just felt I should even though had checked it few times and sent them email asking if they wanted to sell. Tonight it was FREE and I just regged it and my details are on whois. How on earth could this happen ??. Maybe they cancelled it, maybe it is mistake at registry ??

Any ideas ?.

edit: I probably typed it in wrong as its ok now.

Depends what the 'word' was, but sometimes registries domain taste to see if they get traffic, if not they drop them .Some domainers do this too. Some registries allow it automatically, others just as a special privelige.
If you had been searching for the word prior then some registries/dark forces scan these searches & nail the domains when you least expect it.
Incidentally, the domain you are asking about, are other extensions took?
cheers,
Pred

Basically it is a massive new company starting and thats why I was not too surprised to see that someone had beaten me to it. The domain had not been regged before. None of the other extensions had been taken either so I took those .net etc. The only thing I can think is that it was pure fluke that it was regged and the guy regging it didnt actually know the significance ,although given the name I doubt that he didnt know. I checked my emails and I had emailed him asking if it was for sale.
Guy is in Nassau, BS. Thought it was China because it was chinese type email address.Ive seens this before "Nassau, BS " and sure some of you have as is large domainer im sure.

Now I will await the WIPO papers !

I honestly dont know, but he regged it on 4th/5th December and today is 11th so maybe he did taste it and dropped it. It wouldnt have had any/much traffic as company only just made public . Mind you I looked at the Registrar he uses and its "Domaindoorman";
Chargebacks. If, for any reason other than its own errors, DomainDoorman is unable to charge your method of payment for the full amount then due, or is charged back for any fee, this will be a material breach of this Agreement. Under such circumstances: (i) DomainDoorman may pursue all available legal remedies to obtain payment for services provided; (ii) you will waive all legal defenses to DomainDoorman’s legal remedies; and (iii) DomainDoorman may, in its sole discretion, reassign, cancel, transfer, auction or otherwise revoke your domain names without providing prior notice to you and without obligation to refund any fees paid to-date for the applicable Services. "

Maybe that happened or maybe he was just searching for traffic and found none and dropped it.

I'd say he tasted it. I can do it via moniker but never have. Think it's 7 or 10 days, something like that.

Im more into the names rather than traffic. Anyway I'll probably only lose it in WIPO anyways !
