I thought in light of the recent announcement about stopping certificates I would try to reduce some of the time and paper involved in transferring a domain, so i've just started a little experiment.

1. I agreed to buy a domain last night from someone in Ireland
2. Paid via bank transfer which he got straight away
3. He faxed me pages 1 & 2 of the transfer forms this morning together with his covering letter. (would have been better if he could have scanned & emailed it but never mind)
4. I filled in my sections of the form and produced a covering letter and emailed to Nominet.
5. Nominet have confirmed receipt of documents and are processing it.

Time taken less than 24 hours :)

I want to do paperless as well but nominet need to do email checks, can we try and get that pushed through please? Email checks for every transfer, a kind of click here to let it go through or respond to email to confirm?

I am doing more scanned / email only transfers with ID checks - all good.

I never do ID and always use PGP signed e-mails.

Had to fight some bureaucracy on Nominet's side, as some employees were always not aware, but now this works smoothly :)

It's only stupid lawyers now, who do not believe signed forms from me is all that is required. (What are they only paid for..? ;) Their pretentious intelligence pisses me off.

Couple of questions for rob & vizzy.

How do you pay CC? I'm not that keen on sending my details via email.

What do you send them, fax, image file or PDF?

cheers

Just a quick update:

The domain was transferred today

Think I'll be doing them all like this from now on :)
