I recently sold a domain name to a company on domainlore. Payment from them was instant so no problem there. Then came the challenge of getting them to accept the domain transfer. I sent 3 transfers with no reply, I emailed them, phoned them, text them and tweeted them. After sending a 4th transfer I finally managed to get through to one of the web team and have the transfer filled out and processed by Nominet…

No change to the whois…

They email me proof that they have paid Nominet and filled in the transfer. I verify this with Nominet only to be told that their registrar Moniker doesn’t automatically accept UK domain name transfers. What the hell is that about?

So the domain name is now sat in limbo with Moniker telling me that they will not bring in the name until the customer fills out a section in the Moniker admin panel. So I guess that’s me back to making phone calls again tomorrow.

I may as well of given the name away the mount of hours chasing I have been doing.

I'm a nightmare for accepting transfers, lose them in spam, but your one does not make complete sense?

Ok so you have done transfer, so the whois will now be in new clients name.

And all you need moniker to do is accept tag change.

So nothing more you need to do.

Moniker doesnt come into it does it?

If you want it outyour account, just detag it, and let new client sort it.

If there is no whois change thats nominet obviously.

The whois doesn't change until the receiving TAG accepts the TAG change.

Godaddy are the worst, they pretty much refuse to accept any .uk transfer. I've complained to Nominet about it numerous times but as far as I know they're still listed as an option when going through the transfer process.

No, the nominet transfer is done and paid for, but the whois details still remain in my name. Nominet told me that moniker are one of the only registrars who don't allow instant transfers. It is certainly the first time I have come across this but I did find other threads on acorn reporting the same problem with moniker!!

Ah, that makes sense, never would have imagined you had to have a tag accept first before details would change.

lol I see now why its driving you mad :p

Sell the name, send the transfer mail.

If they ignore it or dont process it on the 3rd occasion, then go to the pub and forget it. They will soon do the running and email you when they are ready.

I would love to do that. But being a domainlore sale it effects my account negatively and today was the last day to get it sent... Anyway I emailed Denys and he understands the situation so all should be ok!

Transfer related question - I've bought a couple of .uk names from acorners last week, they were both at Daily, the same registrar that I use. Now the whois details have changed but the names aren't in my Daily account; they say that the seller needs to do an in-registrar transfer - is that correct? I've never had to do that when selling .uk domains.

It might be but its really simple to do, Daily have a nice clean panel unlike 123-Reg. Have you tried just doing an incoming transfer from your control panel? It is usually instant, another thing i like about Daily.

I have a client with a similar problem using LCN as a registrar. IF you do the transfer BEFORE client adds to his control panel at LCN then transfer fails.

Try getting them to add to their Moniker account first and then start the transfer. The original one should fail after five days and the fee refunded although there is no problem issuing another one before then as only the succesful one will ("should", I have had problems but sorted out manually by Nominet) get charged.

Yeah, the seller needs to push it to your account by username, under the Transfers section. A little annoying but no problem if the seller is made aware of the situation.

Weird, tried an incoming transfer and it worked for one but not the other...I'll try again. BTW, thanks for the advice.

I've had the same problem with two companies, one is one of the largest for it's field in the country...I've sent about 6 transfers now, last week finally got through to the person I was dealing with when the sale went through they said "send it again I'll do it right away".....a week later another failed transfer.

I like to get the names out of my account once there sold just to save any confusing more than anything. NIGHTMARE!

Send them a nice big invoice for managing the domain on their behalf. That should either get them moving, or earn you a bonus! :p
