Have you tried using Twitter? How do you find it? Is it effective for your site's promotion?

Yes it is highly effective in marketing campaign of a website. I have found it by accident. Some people are even saying that Google is working hard to acquire it.

I just recently joined on Twitter but I don't use it regularly... I think I should be more active on this because I heard from other people that they find this effective for driving traffic to their site.

Same to me because I have to a lot of work single-handedly that I rarely get chance to increase my popularity in Twitter.

I think with Twitter you either get it or you don't. I'm in the latter.

However, I do use Twitter accounts to publish new posts from my Wordpress sites for SEO and backlinks.

2 examples : Twitter / AlderDomains and Twitter / seanhorton

Gets the news out nice and quick as you get more people following you.

Most of my Twitter entries are automatic feeds/posts from Wordpress sites I run. I use TwitPress, nice and simple.

Makes Tweeting for SEO easy. Each time you make a new post your associated Twitter account is updated. I have a few for each website.

I have a twitter account but that's as far as I've got so far. I believe it's no follow so it's no good for seo and for my home site (web designer) I'm interested in genuine sales enquiries rather than casual traffic. However, I've started doing squidoo lenses and can see that - if I ever have the time to build up a following - Twitter would drive traffic to the lenses and therefore increase money made by each lens.

twitter is good for guerilla/ viral marketing techniques. if you are willing to put in the time and effort to create a large following then you can be successful.
