VR domains

I have the Oculus Rift DK2 and Samsung Gear VR which makes me sure VR is going to be massive from now onwards. With the 4k 360 Cameras to take your own photos/videos to use with these headsets it really is very close to re-living the moment, surely VR can't fail this time around.

So do you think it's going to be worth getting VR domains and building VR sites, or do you think it's going to be another 3DTV flop?

I was thinking this myself. I have the Samsung Gear VR also, first time tried anything virtual reality and it's pretty cool. Only thing is it makes my head spin a bit but think that's more to do with it being shown on the phone so the picture isn't that great in some things. But I can only see it getting bigger, especially with VR porn. No pun intended.

When I first tried it for a longer period of time it made me feel a bit weird when I removed them, a bit freaked out lol, but after more use my brain seemed to accept it more.

The Samsung gear is actually higher resolution than the oculus, but the consumer version of the oculus will be much higher res, the oculus has better head tracking as it detects forward/backward head movement also which adds a lot to the realism.

I think it will really take off the most when the PSVR is released for the playstation, it will be much easier to use with simple plug n play, at the moment the oculus can be a real pain with what works and what doesn't, especially with windows 10.

Yeah, VR porn will certainly drive the sales up, and probably the best domains to buy infact haha.

I think, we are a few years away from them being common, I think augmented reality will have a short time in the lime light game wise (an evolution of wii sports kinda thing), but I can't see how VR can fail unless it rushes and loses traction.

I would agree if it was just PC based as those things are really temperamental and requires a pretty powerful graphics card, but with them coming onto games consoles then I think they will become popular in a short space of time, however I suppose it depends on the content it's released with, that could be the downfall.

I got an Oculus DK2 about 6 months ago. It's absolutely amazing and I'm sure this technology will take off. I found creating simple objects in Blender, importing them into Unity, then throwing in an oculus controller incredibly simple and you could create powerful results and a virtual world very simply. iCodes I found that setting the eyepieces exactly to your eyes, ie distance and correct lenses if needed, eliminated any unpleasant physical experiences. Very excited about the new hi-res consumer version just seems a little bit pricey at the moment for mass consumption. Having said that I've ordered one anyway Once you play Elite Dangerous or Project Cars with VR and voicemap keys to your mic you never want to play a 'normal' game again. Nothing more satisfying than approaching a starbase and saying out loud 'computer request docking permission' and seeing everything done for you Its also fun when you say 'computer all stop' and it thinks you said 'full speed' and blowing up on the side of a space station as you head towards it at high speed.

I can't see the average console gamer dropping more on a oculus than they did on their consoles. I just can't. A PC gamer, hell I spend more on a single graphics card than the Oculus so its not a stretch for a PC gamer to pick it up.

Maybe there will be bundle deals and subsidies, I don't follow consoles so I don't know.

When is the next gen console due ? That could be the turning point.

I am half blinded by not following the console side so I maybe wrong.

VR is going to be huge. However, I see it more as a tech opportunity than a domaining opportunity. The best VR domains are going to do well, but there's little point registering a load of non-premium VR domains, they just won't help you address the business opportunity.

Thanks RobM, will try adjusting the lenses, I just left them as is, i've just powered up my oculus and it's not displaying the screen, tried re-installing the runtime driver but no luck, hope the damn thing hasn't died on me :-(

Skinner, the next gen console is about 6 years away, the recent Gen has only been out less than 2 years (I think). but they are easily powerful enough to run the VR headsets with decent games.
