Hi All

Ive had a good read through this site and am still none the wiser!
I want to purchase a domain that expired in April. Its a .co.uk and i'm pretty sure it wont be renewed as the business has folded.
Can anyone tell me where to start with this?

Thanks

Book a dropcatch slot with as many dropcatching services as you can identify as soon as possible provided they operate on a no win no fee basis. Keep your fingers crossed.

If the domain you are after is potentially valuable, then you have to be quick to get a slot for the day it drops (that can be calculated - see top menu) as other domainers who don't do dropcatching themselves will be using the services of the paid-for dropcatchers.

have fun and good luck, Luke

If the business as gone under then check the recievers etc or the business itself are not still going to own the trademark.

Thanks for the replies.
So if the domain renewal was due in April, how long before it actually expires?
I cant calculate the drop date as it says it is still registered.

If the name expired, for example, on 25th April, it should drop on 26th July - 92 days from the renewal date.

So the next step is to go to the dropcatching discussion
http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/drop-catching-domain-names.html
and approach a couple of dropcatchers with a view to booking a catching slot on the appropriate day. you need more than one trying if you want a good chance of catching the domain, even if they do charge £30 each.

Ok thanks
If it is going to drop in July how early should I be booking a catching slot?

As soon as possible otherwise you might find the good catchers have it booked by someone else already.

Can you see a contact address on the WHOIS? If so, try making contact and offer to buy the domain before it drops.

Rgds

Ive tried to make contact but no joy.
Can anyone recommend good catchers?

Give it a couple of days before you say no response - and search through the forum for recommendations in other threads.

You don't get much sympathy around here if you expect spoon-feeding.

Not once have I said no response!
I'm new to this so looking for advice. I simply asked if anyone could recommend a drop catcher.
Thanks for the input anyway..

And I didn't suggest you had said "no response" - I just said "wait before you say no response"!

So I sent you a PM - but think about your questions -

You are asking people to reveal trade info so you can get that domain for £50, when they might be able to make money from it themselves - in a public forum, where anybody can pick up the info and run with it.

For every contributing member that reads a thread, there are generally ten "drongoes" reading it.

Drongo is an Australian word for someone that is always hanging around, ready to pick up on freebies, but never makes a positive contribution to anything unless it is in his personal interest.

Nobody wants to feed the drongoes ...

No you misunderstand me.
I just want a domain that's expired and I'm willing to pay to get it.
It's like doing the gardening. I have no clue so I pay someone to do it.
This is the noob section isn't it?
Having said that I will be on guard and trust nothing or nobody.
Lance from neighbours was a drongo. He was cool..
End of thread ;)

This is the noob section isn't it?

It is indeed, things can get a bit harsh round here sometimes!!

Public catchers:

caught.co.uk
dropsystem.co.uk
dacr.co.uk
domainmonster.co.uk
dropcatcher.co.uk

.......probably a couple more that I can't think of.

Before you can go for buying a domain, you must first come up with an appropriate name for your online endeavors. In order to begin, first determine what you intend to use your domain for. Once you've figured this out, you will have a more focused theme or topic around which to fashion your domain name. Remember that all domains on the Internet are unique and no two names are allowed to be exactly alike. For this reason, you should come up with a list of suitable names in their appropriate permutations just in case the name you like best has already been taken.
