Monaghan, Redoblong, who?

Who, in your mind, catches the best names and is consistent?

Looking at the results of missed catches, I think it goes in cycles.

I tend to see the same groups of names doing well for a while and then we have a shuffle about, occasionally a new name pops up, but generally it tends to be the same group of catchers we all know and love.

Goldfrog looking at the quality of his names

Don't think he catches for others though

Ah fair enough, would you put this down to constant algorithm/script changes or just luck? :)

There is a fair amount of fairy dust required, when the fairy dust runs out the catch rate drops off, however, reviewing your settings and timings can often make a difference.

So is there no peak? Surely by now your scripts are at a stage where every single part is optimized to its capacity? Or are changes at nominet meaning the goal posts are moving?

I am just curious, I don't think I want to get into catching but Its a very interesting aspect of domaining.

Thanks a lot for your answers ;)

You're not going to get specifics, but the script (program, application) is not the only variable. I would have thought that most people have the catch portion of their application reasonably well optimised by now.

Ah server position, hardware, etc (silly me). Alright that will do me for info - Curiosity sated.

I might play around with there testing platform just for interests sake.

Do I have to be a member to query the testbed?

Total mixed bag I think, just depends who the sun is shining on. Having said that, looking at my logs and only lll.co.uk, Denys does really well. I know not everyone goes after them etc, but it's as close as you can get to reasonable comparison. I'd post some stats but I'm never sure if I'd be breaking some TOS or unwritten rules etc.

Haha fair enough, its probably worth keeping those cards to your chest.
