Even though this question will make many of you smile - why did you decide to become a member of Nominet?

cheaper domains? .. are they really cheaper?
domain catching?
domain availability checker?
backlink + credibility?
other?

thank you in advance,
Helmuts

cheaper domains (even a few pennies add up when you're renewing thousands of names) + one less layer of customer service (any problems and I can go straight to Nominet, who always seem to have an answer) + own TAG which looks better in Whois

I was trying to run a business and everyone at the time offering .co.uk's gave me pants service so I bit the bullet and joined Nominet so there was only me to blame if anything went wrong. Never looked back.

Drop catching was a technical challenge waiting to be solved :) and it came along (to me anyway) a few years after joining.

Complete control and lower costs initially, then catching shortly after.

It easily pays for itself even without the catching.

While we are not a member (yet), I think the main motive would be being in control.
Some registrars are buggy and have actually lost domains. Not just 123...

Example: you pay for a renewal, you get an order confirmation, an invoice, but the renew command was not carried out at the registry for some reason. A buggy script that does not handle errors will not trigger any warning and you don't notice until it's too late.
