1 and 1 Domain Transfer

How's it done?

I got the email below and would like to find an answer.

I'm trying to buy a couple of domains off someone. These domains weren't for sale, I approached the owner directly with an offer. He said the domains are hosted at 1and1 and I'd need to signup with them to complete the transfer. The trouble is you can't sign up without buying a domain. Besides all of my domains are registered with 123reg. I told him this and I think I've stumped him.

Can you give me any advice, surely it can't be that hard to transfer a domain can it?

Transfering the domains doesnt require 1&1.

Get the bloke to sort a form or bulk xfer form.

The domains will be transferred into your name.

Problem for the IPS-TAG change then crops up, 1&1 are hit and miss doing this as their online system is less fun than watching millwall. Best bet there is to pay Nominet for a tag transfer and cut out 1&1 entirely.

Get the guy to go to contract.1and1.co.uk, log in, and select the domain he wants to transfer and then select 'End as soon as possible' and then 'Change IPS Tag'. Quick and free and you'll be able to use the domain in a matter of hours. You will then need to change owner with Nominet to make it legal (£30 + VAT), but you'll save the £15 + VAT (£10 starting Oct.) to get Nominet to change the Tag.
