Ha yes we have the 65" OLED and it WAS massive - but now I am looking it doesn't look so big :Z

The HD is awesome if not a little bright without amending the settings.

Football in Ultra HD is excellent.

Definitely worth the investment.

You must either have a cinema room or a very large living room. If the room isn't overly bright, it is very hard to beat LG's OLED's (or Sony). Failing that, Samsung QLED is pretty good though if I could start again, I'd not go Samsung again, and probably not Sonos either!

It's an option of course but the argument for projectors is continually diminished by the lower prices of larger tv's. Add to that the fact they cannot compete on brightness, contrast, dont have android baked in...so you need a box, installation, screen...

And you need to sit in the dark if you want to watch it

the other problem with projectors is you have to have receiver/speakers and their location needs to be at the screen...... a long way from the projector so more involved if you want a 'pretty' and neat setup

Have a 65’ and a projector.

The projector is spectacular for a family movie, with popcorn etc. Contrast is perfect and I run it on a blank wall. Would recommend.

Surely on Android, though, whatever's baked into the TV - even if state of the art now - is likely to be old hat compared to the dedicated streamers that will come out in say 12-24 months' time? Just like Smart TVs from a few years ago can seem prehistoric (and super slow) compared to the same features in a dedicated streaming box.

My 2016 Sony Android TV still gets system updates and is now running (latest?) Android 10.
Its OS is still fresh and relevant and actually gained new features along the years (eg builtin Google Assistant).
Apps get updated through PlayStore so nothing is really out of date software-wise.
The only thing I didn't get as software update was AirPlay2 which they reserve only for the very latest models.

No mate, i think you are quite out of date I've had an android tv for 6 years, I've also had new google chromecasts and new firesticks. Still prefer an android tv. But yeah low performance processorrs in old 'smart tvs' can be naff and laggy. I just love 'less stuff' and love '1 remote' without having to get an all in one either. Thats what you achieve with an android tv, connected to a good soundbar and sub. All works with just the TV's original remote and you have access to Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO and importantly IPTV (for certains 'sports channels'). The latter is what you cannot do on a smart tv without another box.

Totally agree; with current technology, for size, a projector is the only way to go.

When I built my cinema room a few years back, the biggest mistake I made was to underestimate how good projectors are. I went to all the time, trouble and cost of having a wall mounted 65" plasma for TV programs with a projector and motorised screen that dropped down in front of the TV for movie nights.

The very first night as a test we fired up the projector and watched something on Sky on the 138" drop-down screen... the viewing experience was incredible. As a result we then watched everything on the big screen and in fact a year later removed the plasma TV from behind the screen as it was literally never used.

This last Christmas I treated myself to a 4K upgrade and the quality of the picture just blows me away; on close-ups you can see every pore and hair on someone's face while on cityscapes you can see actual detail in all the windows - it really is breathtaking. One downside is that my girlfriend is Welsh and so is passionate about the rugby which means that, even though we have some 26 TVs in the house, she takes over the cinema room whenever Wales are playing - watching football or rugby on a 4K 138" screen is like being on the pitch with the players, you really have to experience it to understand how good it is.
