I will be buying one for glance value.... As in, Arrghh my mobile is in another room and I've just received a text (quick glance at the applewatch... i'll reply later, lol). Woohoo that email i was waiting on has just dropped in, best i go grab my laptop!
I will also use it for the fitness and geo tracking too, amongst other things of course - This means i will no longer need my fitbit surge, plus i won't be so bothered where i leave my phone in the house... It really is the glance factor which appeals to me, plus i like the idea of not having to pull my mobile phone out each time i receive a text, call, or hear an email drop in etc.... The times I've had to ask my wife or kids where by mobile phone is after I've heard it ring, lol, now i simply glance at a watch, simples.
I remember many many moons ago when the Casio watch came out with the calculator on it, yet people still used their handheld calculators, however, you had the choice to still calculate on your wrist if you really wanted too. The Applewatch is just another Casio but with greater functionality

I like it enough to warrant buying one, but I won't because of my experience with all the iPhones I've had.
I expect longevity out of a watch. I have analogue and digital watches between 1 and 50 years old, that I wear frequently. They may need a new strap, or servicing, but I do not expect any of them to die in 2 to 3 years, and if they did, I would never buy one again.
I fully expect the Apple Watch to die in that period though. Battery problems after a year or so, then problems with the screen, or the button. Then of course after 5 or 6 years they will drop support for the operating system for the version of the watch you have. How anyone would drop £10k on something so transitory I do not know.

It's a lifestyle choice not a calculated logical decision to own one.
The reality of the typical owner will be an insecure loner who is desperate for acceptance, and needs to feel that they belong in an ever more vacuous materialistic society.
I here the next thing is an iProbe, you can take pictures of your insides by sticking it up your ass, then post them on Facebook and Instagram.
I haven't really read up much on the spec and features yet but is there anything ground-breaking compared to the Samsung/other android smart watches that have been around for years? I can see why they would be a nice addition to a person's gadget collection but not for that price.

the basic requirement of a watch is it tells you the time.
all their "incredibly accurate" stuff suggests that the time is not something kept and ticked away on the device itself, but rather fed in from a top secret base in China or Switzerland or somewhere. so you need to have a decent WiFi signal to get the "incredibly accurate" time, surely?
that 18hr max battery life is the kiss of death.
but, i love shiny things, so would not be critical to anyone whose magpie eyes get hungry for this shiny thing. all the best to those who buy.

I expect the target market for an iWatch is a low IQ, failed in life, idiot who is just buying one so their equally scummy friends can see how much they just spent on a watch.

I always feel like gadgets like this are brought out just for the sake of it and because "we can" rather than they are actually needed to make our lives better. I think the same with Google Glass.
Technology is outpacing humans the rate it is going, we really don’t need a watch like this, yes it could make the odd task 2 seconds faster to carry out, but it is probably equally a pain in the arse compared to just doing it on your phone or another device.
Following on from this topic, who sees major high end watch makers embracing "smart watches" in the future? Or do you think they are just puking all over this witchcraft?
