Bt hub question

Hi

Under home network within the hub menu I see my neighbours name under wireless connections.

Can this be down to btfon or is there something I should be concerned about?

I used to get the same on my BT home hub when I was in the UK, it would always show a list of all available wireless connections, some might be BT Fon, others will be connections in neighbouring properties, nothing to worry about, as you can't log in to their accounts without the WEP security key, that's if they have a secure WEP enabled hub, otherwise it'll be open for anyone to use like with Fon.

I assume you mean under Home Network -> Devices and wireless connections on RHS? (under advanced settings)

I only see the devices within the house that I know about. If you click refresh it should just show those actually connected. If a neighbours was connected I'd be worried although not entirely sure how it works if they are connected via BT FON (assuming you have that enabled). If neighbour is connected try disabling the BT FON and see if it disappears.

Under BT access control you could also block a specific device (set time to 24 hours to be permanent block). I don't think you can restrict to MAC addresses on BT hub which is what I've always preferred to do with other providers.

@Sys, that answered one question, thanks, now just need to work out why people name their routers such funny names.

@Dave, yes thats it, BT just said that cant happen, but screenshot and neighbours first and last name-pc is a bit of a giveaway so I'm not going mad, as the BT guy just made out.

Will look at blocking any I see, and fon opted out of Thank you.

Now if I could only get port forwarding to work so I can see my baby while im at work, life would be brighter. Before anyone tries to help, it seems ip cameras dont work with the HH3, fools.

And its not even 9.10 on a Monday, hello week lol

If you use logmein, you can set up your webcam to work on your home pc, leave that locked, and you can access it from any remote pc, laptop, iphone, etc and watch your camera from anywhere.

I know it's obvious but worth checking that wireless security is enabled.

People can hack the wireless key, if you suspect your neighbour might have, then change the key to a much longer one than the default.

Make sure the wireless encryption is not using WEP as this has a vulnerability which means it can be cracked in a short space of time by capturing enough packets.
