Catching a domain, who should I use?

Found a domain I'm quite interested in catching. As I'm new to this, I didn't really want to sign up with tons of catching services asking for money up front, so I've registered the domain with the following:

caught (had to pay £30 but they will refund within 60 days if requested)
domainwatchlist
domainmonster
pfukcatching

Others I've found seem (I think!) to want to charge with no refunds.

Are there any more I should absolutely be using? Doesn't seem the domain has been registered already which I'm surprised about...but maybe there is a reason.

Thanks for the general advice.

Also private catchers here may offer you a slot (such as myself) but may charge significantly more, and you will have to let them know the drop date of the domain name and the first letter to see if they have anything similar loaded already.

NEVER reveal the full domain to a private catcher as if they like it themselves they can just turn around and say it's already booked!

Thanks,
Dave

There's no cost at domainjunky.co.uk unless the domain is caught, can you let me know what makes you think otherwise so I can update the text to remove the confusion.

Corrected my original message Alex so not to cause offence. I think the lack of information before you register put me off a little, but if you are saying that I don't have to pre-load money, or give payment details prior to catching, let me know and I'll sign up!

This is my (and no doubt many) concern with asking to catch, as it might be a missed domain they then want themselves. The domain isn't for a while which might explain why I've been able to reserve it, but it is my way of testing the water to see how it works, before the mother load appears much further into the future ;)

How does giving the first letter matter, out of interest? Just to see if there is a chance it might already be reserved?

How far ahead into the future, approximately, might we be talking? Add 92 days to the expiry date.

For this particular domain, only weeks. The monster domain much much longer, not even suspended yet so naturally can't book that one anywhere!

We need your billing details to be entered so the system can invoice you for any catches.

The system runs completely on auto-pilot to remove any delay associated with manual processing, it also ensures that there is no bias or cherry picking in allocation of catch slots - any catches I book also go via the same queue system (which can be a pain, but it is first come first served)

I would have saved my money with caught and paid for dropsystem instead

@OP - If a domain is booked through our system via the website, and paid by PayPal we refund the payment if not successful - contrary to what you posted :D

@Murray - thanks for the mention!

On what basis if you don't mind me asking? Caught seem to offer a refund if requested so lessens my risk.

Apologies if I've offended, I've removed from my original post but you may be able to see why I'm confused, as I'm not registered yet and your website states "Each backorder is charged at £45 (no VAT). If we fail to secure the backordered domain for you then you will be given a credit which you can use when you next backorder with us.". No mention of refund?

Registered with your system but have to say I'm finding it a little confusing. Can't find any option to add payment details, so presumably that is done once caught. Also added the domain I want which stated it will be processed but can't find where it is listed (not in queue) but when trying again, says already booked. Also, no logout option?

Having said all that, I bet if any get catch the domain, it will be yours lol

No problem Ian!

I edited my post above with a question to you in case you missed it.

All - does signing up for 8 catcher services give me a reasonable chance of catching the domain, or will the two guys mentioned in other posts (I won't name them) have this all sewn up anyway ;) (seems to be a lot of accusing going on!)

Sorry - I have misinformed you. You're correct; we changed this a few months ago. You would get a credit for another booking. Apologies indeed.

Sorry Ian, but this thread is a bit of a joke.

You have been a member here for years, and looking back to 2009 you asked the same question and seemed to have understood, why on earth would you come back now and ask such a lame question.

You are obviously working with or are someone else, next thing you will be selling caught credits as so many people who pop up after a while seem to have for sale.

Ok i may be wrong with the above, but this thread is a complete waste of time.

Can you explain what you mean here please?

I just meant that their system confuses me a little so typically might be the system that ends up catching the domain for me. Some sites are easier to understand than others, but aren't always the best. Didn't mean anything by it, just tongue in cheek.

You are very wrong sorry, I can't even remember asking this previous but I never got around to using the catching services, but this time I will. Any of those catching services could no doubt confirm I've registered today if they wish. The help has been invaluable and I have no plans to sell credits? Again, the catchers I've signed up with could confirm I've not bought anything if they wanted! Don't appreciate the tone, but I guess they may happen a lot?!?!

Doesn't seem the domain has been registered already which I'm surprised about...but maybe there is a reason.

(when you say registered I assume you mean booked)

One problem when you're new and booking domains is that you don't recognise names/tags of domainers who are 99% likely to renew before it drops.

I remember just over a year ago when i first started getting interested in domains I think I booked 5 A Hugh ones in a row before I noticed they don't drop :(

If it's an A hugh domain it wont drop, forget about it.

If the name of the registrant is the same as the registrar you can most likely forget about it too (all though not always in the case of CHARD lately).
