na, stamps get lost in post...

surely it wouldnt matter what it's programmed in?

any programming language, including PHP, Perl, C# etc will be able to fire away 500 requests minute with ease.

surely the bottle neck of this whole game is the servers internet connection?

The programming language makes a great difference, it's all about speed and I'm talking about milliseconds (thats the difference between catching a domain or not).

yes but the servers internet connection is always going to be the bottleneck of any such set up.

PHP, especially PHP5 with the new zend engine for example can parse THOUSANDS of requests a second.

but in terms of sending requests to dac, most modern methods should be sufficient with coping with that sort of load at that speed.

the bottleneck is surely ping times?

I would imagine a slow script running on a box in oxford would beat a fast script running on a box in london.

Still a fast script running on a box in Oxford would be best.

why oxford?

i know nominet are based in oxford, but are their servers?

i was under the assumption from trace routes to *.nic.uk resolve to telehouse?

or am i wrong :?
