It's 1.32 am here and there are about 12 registered members online. So I reckon a chat room would work nicely here. Have you considered installing one?

Perhaps a 3rd party chatroom like Parachat would do the trick. Since they're remotely hosted service providers, it would have zero impact on the main forum hosting.

IRC is a good idea but personally i never have access (firewalled) because they keep catching me downloading MB's!

Flashchat works very nicely indeed and since this forum gets 20 members online regularly now, and it only takes 5 mins to install...

yes it killed the server when i tried it before, the host suspended my account even with only a few users :-(

Flashchat is very light on bandwidth, but really does eat CPU time.
It is very good, I use it, but only on my own servers.

Flashchat shouldn't pose any problem at all... you just have to make sure you upload all the files in the correct mode.
