Deleting.co.uk RIP

I think the PRSS that Nominet operate is a far greater abuse of domain data. At a touch of a button a competitor, or simply a malicious person can quite legitimately download and store details of your entire domain portfolio. Nominet never asked our company for permission to publish our confidential information in this way and it is obvious that the data could be used to maliciously target your domains (scam emails, bids, etc). Yet Nominet went out of their way to make the PRSS available despite the real threat to our businesses

I agree Ole inconsistent Nominet Couldn't give a Sh*t When I complained about a T****r on here publishing all my domains on the forum. I complained and they couldn't care less. I said they can check their logs to find the search. They said they couldn't find it!!

...however "DN DC" is a dark art, in some respects a bit like a secret members club that always had free open memberships to anyone that looked hard enough and offered the "Normal Joe" a route out of a dull, online existence, with lots of $ perks... but chill, slow the fire threads and opinions of other DNr's down......


the PRESS and the PUBLICITY around this matter will HARM and DILUTE a lot of peoples new or existing careers in the DN industry... WHY? well if EVERYONE knows how or what is involved in the process and where the information is gathered... it will not be a career for anyone because the same people will know the same things... ...

if news of Nics actions, against Andy spreads the value of the DN's will plummet as others will know how and what to do to acquire DN's...

Domaining is not a top secret club, and the whole point of deleting.co.uk was that anyone could come along with a bog standard 123-REG style account and start registering domain names due to the lists provided.

Knowledge of domaining is growing to the man-in-the-street and I do not see that as a bad thing. The only people to be worried by domaining becoming public are those with infringing names and lots of earnings to be clawed back via passing off and the like. For legit domainers that is not an issue

Values of domains would not plummet if more people are aware of domaining. The reverse would happen , more are registered, speculation would increase the values as supply of the better names would decrease.

Everyone had to start somewhere and I would like to think those using Deleting.co.uk at a low level would then register / resell / develop nice names and 'build up' into Nominet members and take an active part in the .UK community be it via Nominet or creating useful websites for internet users.

As it has been pointed out elsewhere the main 'winners' in Deleting.co.uk being closed are other domainers (no more pesky smaller domainers nicking the odd name) or political reasons.

The whole thing reminds me of when I was actively explaining dropcatching to people a few years back , one 'established' domainer told me to 'shut up' as it was effectively giving money away. Since then many of the people I talked to have now got nice domain portfolios, earning a decent whack and are good mates.

There is someone out there who has made a complaint, and I would love to know the reasons behind it Sadly I cannot see that happening.

Since then many of the people I talked to have now got nice domain portfolios, earning a decent whack and are good mates.

Share the knowledge, i was just getting into drop catching, researching on how to build my own system, asking questions etc, and the shut down of deleting will hold me back, and i can't afford to buy nominet membership to find the deleting domains, so its made it that much harder for me to get anything from drop catching, unless i pay someone 40 + per domain.

Rob i would love to hear any tips if you could of drop catching, help me get into the game..

is there any alternatives to deleting as i hate pools way of search for a domain, and i hate there design.

yeah I’d just like to say what a fantastic service it was. certainly helped all who got involved in this industry one way or another - if we can’t get it back then I’d like to see you guys earn the "life time achievement award" or "services above and beyond the call of duty" at the next nominet general meeting?

Nominet paid a solicitor to find out what deleting was doing wrong, but unfortunately can't tell others what the rules are exactly and you'd have to pay a solicitor yourself to find out what the rules are and even then Nominet's solicitor might feel the rules are different, they're crooks the lot of 'em.
