That said glad I've got a not so common name (although not much chance of somebody famous coming along with the same name and offering me an amount I can't refuse!).

.com only co.uk doesn't make as much sense as implies you're a company?!

The town where you live is often the best to tell people when out and about. I have mobberley.com and you can then have fun with the bit before the @ i.e. it can be anything!

Surnames/first names

I believe that, long term, there will be more value in first names than surnames; they are more marketable. Better if you can get one that doubles as a first and second name - e.g. Ewarts.
I have most of our family's names in the dot co dot uk format. When I registered them the only available versions were (a) the possessive - eg. Bridgets or (b) with the suffix "place" e.g Bridgetsplace.
That makes the email address attractive - Bridget(at)Bridgetsplace.co.uk. Lots of interest in personal names but not many sales - story of my life.

yes, got mine as com and co.uk, and got whole family as co.uk. The kids will realise the benefit in years to come. The 11 year old already does, as all her friends have to be [email protected] etc.

Apologies for resurecting this thread, but this seems a good a place as any.

Anyone after a "name" email address might want to register with yahoo, they have recently released ymail.com email addresses and if get in early enough might get something better than "[email protected]".
