Hi Guys

Do anyone of you scour car boot sales find things to sell on, e.g. to local antiques dealers or on eBay. Just interested to hear what items might have profit potential.

I know a girl who does and buys old furniture and bits to "shabby chic" up, she sells mainly on Facebay and sometimes Ebay but cant make it quick enough, the end results are simply amazing, and she makes some very impressive money from it. quite a bit of work is involved though.

I would prefer to specialise in small items that are easily transported if possible.

Wayne, I've never heard of FaceBay before, how does that work then, I've looked at their FaceBook page and they only have half a dozen posts since 2010, no website I can see mentioned, so how do you sell on there?

Quite a while ago I used to make a fortune buying retro consoles on car boots and selling them on eBay. The biggest money maker was typically the Super Nintendo consoles. Sega Mega Drives and other consoles are also good money spinners.

My best buy was a Sega Multimega - I paid £15 for it and those things are like rocking horse poo. I sold it for nearly £500 to a Belgian fellow a few days later.

Keep your eyes peeled for old consoles - Nintendo ones especially!

I think if you Google Facebay+town it comes up with more details, I'm not on Facebook so I've never used it but know a lot of people do, its basically a place to buy and sell in your area and its all linked to Facebook, you have to be a member of Facebook to use it.

Saying that my wife sells my Ecig kits on there and has sold a few of my barn finds for me so it works.

It's not something I'd use then, just did a search for FaceBay + geo and couldn't see much or make sense of what was on there, it all looks a mess, why not just have a website for it.

I don't understand why it's not just a website, I don't even bother trying to get my head round it

I have been thinking about doing this but couldn't decide on what to go for... I came up with thing like vintage toys, matchbox cars, Guinness memorabilia ( a lot of it over here and Yanks seem to love it) and a few more things.

I thought of candlesticks or vases ... something where there's margin potential.

The cars is a good one, get some good dinky corgi vanguard etc boxed if possible and as long as you can get them cheap enough good ones sell well on Ebay

I used to sell records and CDs - in the early days was easy to make money. No good any more - and the real killer which applies to a lot of products is the postage rates now. Small packets / parcels cost a few quid even for the lightest items and once you factor in selling fees you need to be selling items for at least £10 to have any chance of a wortwhile return for your time.

Small silver. Look for the really dirty, tarnished bits. Usually in mixed boxes.

My best find was pic on twitter

Also dress jewellery (60s,70s & 80s) people tend to think its rubbish if its not silver or gold, do your research.

Old watches, but people tend to know if they have an old watch and will increase their asking price.

Years ago i used to pick up vintage computers and software and sell what i didn't want on ebay, Old "Genuine" Software was a good money maker back then, Trouble is these days so many people doing the same thing and there's always someone willing to pay more.

A couple of years ago, I picked up a box of used dinky toys at the local house clearance auction house. Didn't look through it, just saw a cardboard box about 12inch tall, 10 inch square full of cars, and thought 'great for the kids'.

When I got it home, and tipped it out, in the bottom were 3 mint Dinky car Boxes, from the 60's or some time like that (the old yellow ones). They were empty though. Looked on eBay, and the cars were worth alot. So, I put the empty boxes up, and that covered the cost of my day at the auction, and a few beers :)

I once knew a guy who made a decent bit on the side buying and selling used power tools.

Old vinyl - especially picture discs - can be very valuable if you find the right stuff. I once bought a job lot of CD's on ebay (mainly because I wanted them) that came with some records - sold one of them for more than the whole lot cost.

Its about buying cheap from A selling High to B

Snap, I used to do this. I used to try and buy as much as possible. I would go around to peoples homes and buy it. I also bought duplicate items and made the best sets and kept those for myself and sold the B-grade stuff on ebay for profit.

I once sold a sincalir QL for a stack of cash. Thats the one with the tape drive that was called microdrive I believe - when the world was moving to disk [or had]!

I remember making a killing buying pokemon cards from a carboot and selling them on ebay! Always worth trying to find what the latest craze is and making the most of it
