Google Instant ... big big change

Well judging by the posts in this thread it seems its already available in the UK for those who are logged in. But I don't see anything to suggest it will be rolled out within a week to everyone logged in or not. The article says:

"Those people not signed into their Google Accounts, or not searching from within the countries listed below or who only search directly from their browser will NOT see streaming search results for awhile to come".

You need to type a letter and watch the search results, they will update with suggested sites the more of a word you type.

Many domainers make money from long search terms (long-tail searches) where as this way Google is trying to predict what people are looking for, meaning they will type in less words.

That's what the fuss is about.

Has anyone seen a big gain or drop in traffic?
 
Took a look at this today. I'm looking at this from a domain value point of view as we don't have many developed sites. I suppose domain values might change a bit depending on whether the keywords in a domain are in the top predictive terms.

If you own a broad portfolio of quality descriptive domains then some might be worth more and some less. It's Swings and Roundabouts. Buyers might start typing the keywords into google search rather than use the google adwords keyword tool alone.

Some longer domains might increase in value as buyers buy these hoping to develop them and get a top ranking in google for that term i.e. just searched on the term 'over 50' and 'over 50 car insurance' results appear before the shorter but less descriptive 'over 50'. Mind you - it could be risky for a buyer basing a value on today's top predictive term as that could change.

So I don't think this change is all bad news for domain owners. In my opinion poor domains will be worth less but quality descriptive domains should be worth more.
 
Well the change is not so bad on one of my sites at least (the picturedeveloping site in my sig) Comes second above Boots and Snapfish for the term 'photo developing', and second above snapfish and foto.com for the term 'picture developing', and second above snapfish, boots, bonus print for the term 'digital photo developing'

It may well have been in this position previously, I haven't checked for a while, I have just been adding content tonight (as I had left it half finished) voucher codes and a couple of feeds and thought I would check how it was doing...:p

I wonder how much they have spent on SEO!! :p

if the non-plurals continue to hide some will feel an impact but other than that can't see major impact, no-one will look at the dynamic results the eyes will only move down till they've a) pressed return or b) seen their desired term grey'd

I still don't see how this is going to have a big impact. Google has had predictive search terms for ages now, all that has changed is that they are displaying the results on demand.

It's the 'sway' factor though. Is 'Instant' more inclined than the predictive search to halt the searcher from competing their search phrase? I suspect there will be a modest percentage increase simply because it's more visual, and in time as it's improved more, it'll have an effect. Not only this, but in the mobile market, especially touch screens, the transition from the search box to the Instant results will be seamless, so once rolled out there, it'll take off even more!
 
I wonder what percentage actualy search from the box on the google home page I'd guess a fair percentage of serches are from the toolbar
