I have been trying to work out some kind of system to see what's worth catching and am totally stuck.

If I check the auction list here: https://domainlore.uk/ things are sold for like:
    • papershop.co.uk (£130+)
    • shortbreaks.co.uk (£600+)
    • outdoors.uk (£1600)
    • granite.uk (£300+)

    but things like
    • amateur.co.uk
    • payrollsolutions.co.uk
    • debtspecialists.co.uk
    are all only £50!

But take something like jmyd.co.uk. It has 1,830,000 monthly searches. Would it be worth catching?

When looking at the droplist here https://domainlore.uk/droplist is there any way to see which domains are 'worth' over £50?

Are people using adscore or search volumes to price domains?

There are so many 'good' sounding domains, but how do you go about choosing which of these domains to try & catch?

Check out the Google Trends tool to get some idea of regional relevance/usage for keywords.

I don't quite follow? How does Google trends relate to the sale price of domains? (Surely it would be faster to check the search volumes?)

It's an indicator of saleability, not sure how many use it, but it's proved very useful over the years for me.

    Domainlore prebids and CatchTiger

Other than that check how many extensions a domain is registered in

Single words, two words that go together well, LLLs, exact match product or service emds that make sense online in profitable industries

Then search google and see if businesses are actually using the names

Some generic company names are good that contain popular words like total or solutions, but again see if people are actually using them

I go after pre-bids, SEO value and obvious premiums. Basically the most competitive ones.

    bank.co.uk, car.co.uk, finance.co.uk, health.co.uk, money.co.uk, boat.co.uk, key.co.uk

    1 word used often.

Do you judge it by search volume of the word?

    What about words like amateur.co.uk?

I tend to steer clear from sex names. That's why I called them obvious. You'll know when you see it. Or at least I do.
It's tricky to decide what will sell and what won't.

I tend to use three factors (but bear in mind I am not an industry professional - I more or less seek out domains for personal interest):

    1. Google search popularity
    2. What Murray said - the number of extensions a domain is registered in
    3. Instinct

I know people use other criteria, but these three work for me and what I need.

I spend one morning a week screening domains, based on those 3 criteria.

I can't see any reason why you'd want to catch this domain, unless I'm missing something, it has nothing going for it. For a start, what does "jmyd" even mean? The sum of its registered extensions is 3, it's not a dictionary word, it was registered in 2018, it has no backlinks or SEO value. A google search for this term returns junk results. Where did you get 1.8m monthly searches from?

Yeah, jmyd has 0 monthly searches.

May be one of the tools you are using trying to work it out and replace the volumes with typos.

Lol, I had this username since I was 12. Definitely not referring to my dong. I'm 6.5ft so some call me big Al (My first name is Alex) or big man. If you must know.

That was one of the funniest one-liners I've ever seen on Acorn.

I so wanted to click 'Funny' about it last night, but I was worried Sir Bigman might be sensitive about it so I held back.

Great to see the big guy has a sense of humour.

Maybe you and DJ AdStar's sister could get together. You seem like a nice guy and she looks well pretty.

Lol, I thought it's his girlfriend/wife. If you're referring to the girl in his picture. Sadly, I'm taken.
