The Japanese tsunami comes just days after the Internet was awash with warnings that the movement of the moon will trigger tidal waves, volcanic eruptions and earthquakes.

I used to live about an hour West from Sendai - can't get in touch with people I know there and I know Yamagata-shi felt more than just a tremor!!
8.9 (if that's what it turns out to be is about 70 times greater than the Chile earthquake... )
Thank god that Japanese construction has been designed for this for quite a while as woudl have raised most tower blocks otherwise.
