Nominations for Non-executive director elections 2013

Doesn't he have to agree before we can nominate :)

I'd vote for him though if he was to stand.

I'm currently investigating the role responsibilities and whether I'd like to get involved.

Cheers guys I will be standing....

I will also as I have already stated be doing so in a not for profit capacity (no pay) and will resign as soon as the "individuals" have left the company.... I will also not be engaging in such discussions and I would like to instantly dismiss this request from Baroness Fritchie.

"Potential candidates are encouraged to have an informal discussion about the non-executive role with the Chair, Baroness Fritchie. To set this up, or for more information, please contact [email protected]."

In the words of Maggie, NO NO NO

I'm sure most people here wouldn't agree, but I don't think that's a constructive way to view a non-exec role.

If you stand, you should deliver on the whole role, not just the one issue you care most about..

I would resign because I'm not smart enough to do the job and I don't want to do the job, people who are smart enough can't do the job because they will be threatened with defamation if they stand out of line. I remove the threats, then people who are smart enough then replace me and do the job.

Why not hold fresh elections when the board goes (including me)?

Also you wouldn't get elected because they already have wined and dined the top 10 registrars and got their votes. I would oppose anything like that going on, so people like you could stand a chance of getting elected.

I agree with that as well. The non-exec director elections are not the venue for what Graeme's trying to accomplish, IMO.

How does one table a motion seeking Cowleys resignation and have the membership take a vote on it?

Do people think I'm going to start throwing chairs around? lol

Cheers guys, I am hoping it won't be necessary to stand. There are still ongoing things that are advancing that I can't talk about which means I may not need to. They won't be censoring my election statement this year either, that is for sure. There is still the EGM to discuss .uk and Derivative action on the books on completion of other stuff that I can't talk about.

Something I have just posted on Nom's Forum

--------------------------

"An election statement of not more than 500 words demonstrating how your prior skills and experience meet the key requirements of the role in order that our members may make an informed choice when exercising their right to vote (to be provided as a word document)"

Can Nominet confirm that any candidate is free to write their own election statement on the subjects they want to write about. If not, can you point me to legal reasons in the Companies Act to state why they have to write their election statement in line with a very leading direction.

Why do Nominet seek to have authority over the content of these statements?

In my opinion that is a very leading / misleading directive given to potential candidates. It is a very nice try at focusing election statements on the conduct of candidates instead of that of the board members.

I'd be grateful if Nominet could confirm and maybe reword and send open instructions about the content of Election Statements to potential candidates. They should be free to write about what they want, I will be doing regardless of your answer. So no need to confirm to me, but you may want to confirm it for others.

-------------------------

These are the tricks you have to watch out for as a Non Exec at this company.

When you say you may not need to stand, I don't understand?

I thought you were standing to watch over nominet and how they do things?

Are you meaning that you won't be standing if all your issues are sorted?

Unfortunately Caz, even though that was almost a month ago when I made that statement, things haven't progressed on other fronts as fast as I would have liked and today was the deadline for standing. So yes, I am standing and that is my election statement. I didn't release it until the nominations closed earlier today.

But yes I am standing

Interesting read, will be looking out for arrival the official voting paperwork with your name on it :)

Cheers Alex,

That thing took me a lot of time and effort to put together, and it got checked and checked again as I believe that one error and they will ban it.

Of course as it is now published, if they feel it is defamatory enough not to publish it then they will have to not only not print it, but take it before a court. I have made it clear to them that this time if they don't publish it, I will seek an injunction against the election until it is re-included.

Are you off to London next week by the way?
