Nominet, the profit with a purpose company responsible for the .UK internet infrastructure, today announces the appointment of Julian McBride as its Global Head of Cyber Sales. The appointment strengthens the security offering of Nominet, which plays a key role across the digital economy, supporting individuals, business, education and government, tackling cyber threats at the network level.
McBride brings with him more than three decades experience of working in IT, with nearly 20 years devoted specifically to cyber sales – most recently as Vice President of Sales in Network Defence for Trend Micro. McBride has extensive knowledge of the networking and security industry, having gained his experience in a variety of start-ups to large enterprise organisations including Hewlett Packard.
“Julian’s breadth of experience and expertise in cyber security will be instrumental in helping us to deliver our cyber security services to our UK and international client base from SMEs to large enterprises and governments worldwide,” said Simon McCalla, CTO at Nominet.
Nominet tackles threats at the infrastructure level, helping government and major corporations capture and analyse their DNS data for rapid detection and mitigation of attacks. Nominet’s Active Defence service is used by UK’s National Cyber Security Centre to protect public sector organisations. In the last two months of 2017 alone, it blocked over 2.5m malicious resolution requests for the Government.
McBride said, “It’s an exciting time to be joining Nominet, particularly at such a critical time for global cyber security. Nominet’s unique position at the heart of UK national infrastructure, with 20 years’ expertise in DNS analytics, makes it ideally placed to lead the charge of British security providers into the global market.”
Nominet’s DNS Cyber Security Services team monitors, analyses and supports responses to security incidents across client networks as part of its overall security solution. The Active Defence service incorporates Nominet’s purpose-built DNS analytics platform, which monitors and ingests up to one million security and network events per second to support its threat mitigation.
