It's always tempting, but ultimately it's a waste of time this year. With only one spot available, the select few will easily sew up their nomination.
Plus, to do a good job would be very challenging and painful with the current direction at Nominet I feel.

I want to stand, and I would stand if the company car was better.
I have considered standing, but as you say, unless none of the big registrars decide to put anyone forward, then there's not a lot of chance of an independent getting voted in with just the single place.
