Please don't post on other people's sales threads.

If people want to discuss this - do it here!

So as well as removing the crap, you've removed my legitimate offer?

Looks like it...

I only moved the posts so I can move back if you like.

Martin's post was a genuine albeit cheeky offer. Your's offered nothing more than the usual turgid drivvel that you spout.

Well, tbh I would worry more if you agreed with my opinions, so all is well :p

I actually found your post ironic given some of the prices I've heard you quote people.

Domain value is a lot more subjective than selling a site based on it's income so not particularly relevant, but we're all free to our own opinion.

I suppose one of my concerns about this is there may be the rare occasion where a sales thread is misleading to potential buyers, some of who maybe relative newcomers.

that's what messaging is for. Sales threads are out of bounds, either that or we have a free for all which i promise you will get very messy. Domains are about opinion and if someone wants to ask £1 million for a name you think is worth £5 that's their choice, it'll only sell if someone agrees with their valuation. Making negative comments turns into a petty squabble and helps no one.

+1

Opinions indeed… In my opinion i dropped a name i thought was of no value which is currently on auction @ £720

As a general rule of thumb you're right, but life isn't black and white

I notice no one is up in arms about people commenting on this sacred sales thread

agreed.

It's not a general rule of thumb - it is a rule full stop.

I hadn't seen that thread you linked to, but any concerns should have been flagged to a mod. Nobody should be commenting on it.

I disagree. If simply visiting a link in a sales thread can result in malware being installed if somebody doesn't have up to date antivirus software running then it is logical to flag that to the attention of EVERYONE reading that thread for the good of the wider Acorn community.

But that is an extreme case, admittedly.

At the end of the day, it's up to Admin to rule on "edge" cases like that. We can all put in our 2p's worth, but he has the final say (the only say that really counts)

Murray gave this as an example of why it was okay to comment on sales threads, but his own comments on sales threads are no more than his own opinion, nothing to do with malware or the like.

Admin or mods can rule on "edge" cases like that one if they are informed immediately a problem is found. Then the thread can be removed if necessary. As it is, the thread and link have not been removed and the thread attracts abuse and counter-abuse, something that is increasingly a problem on this forum.

I think two different things are being discussed

A specific indecent + whether rules should be followed at all times.

Everyone keeps saying rules are rules, but nothing is ever black and white, that was an example of that.

Maybe my grey area is wider than appreciated.

Sorry, but the rule about comments on sales threads is in place for very good reason as should be obvious to all. I don't think your grey area is wider than appreciated and certainly not as wide as you take it to be.

Just because you don't agree with an asking price, doesn't give you the right to express that opinion on a sales thread. Simples. Pulling out an extreme example of a thread that may or not have have had a link to a site infected by malware does not change that.

Its very simple don't ever comment in other peoples sales threads

There is a red triangle bellow every users domain trading profile that should be used to report post to Admin and Mods.
