I need a little help with watching my sky signal in another room.

Previously I had bog-standard Sky and I linked the RF outlet by co-ax (which was already installed by the previous house owner) to another TV in the conservatory - super, all working ok.

Then I moved to Sky+ with the same setup and I cannot get a picture on the other TV. I have tried powering up the RF outlet via the hidden installation menu but this makes no difference.

Is there something else that needs to be done with Sky+ or perhaps my co-ax isnt up to the job?

Does anyone have experience with this?

:D

I just use a wireless signal repeater that runs off the scart. This means set up is:

Sky +HD box
- sends signal out via HDMI to tv/projector
- sends signal out the SCART at the same time into wireless sender

Upstairs TV has wireless reciever and remote repeater. This means full picture and control of downstairs sky hd box...

I know this doesn't help you use your RF, and to be honest I can't see why it wouldn't be working... I assume you have done all the eleminiation like unplug all other connections and just run a short cable to the tv next to the box?

Maybe time to switch to some wireless stuff perhaps? Only £50 or so and you can buy multiple recievers to put the picture in other rooms easily with full access to your recorded content blah blah.

If you are still stuck then I suggest a search and a post over at avforums ;)

TBH, now that both TVs are on the wall, I have not moved it close to eliminate the cable, as it was working before, I kinda guessed that it still would. I guess I will buy a small run of cable and link it that way to eliminate the installed run.

Also im a bit anal when it comes to firing signals all around my house. Rightly or wrongly, what with me have a youngster in the house I try and keep wireless anything to an absolute minimum.

Cheers

The RF frequency on the Sky+ (via the menu) needs to be the same one as the remote TV is tuned to.

I'd agree with that, probably just need to retune the TV. Might be worth connecting the MAIN tv via RF output temporarily just to be sure box is outputting signal on RF out.

Nice idea ! any idea where I can purchase the same set up mate and for how much ?

You can get them at Maplin, Argos etc. Try not to get a 2.4G one though, go for something in the 5.x range as otherwise your microwave and wifi will mess up your picture ;)

You can get them on Amazon, or even down at your local B&Q. However, I would wait for someone to recommend one, rather than taking pot lock.

I've got one in the house (Philex SLx Gold Mini AV Scart Sender), which on the whole delivers a quality picture on the kitchen TV, but can be susceptible to interference when walking near the tv, or when the microwave is on (Thankfully, that's not too often!! ;)) Also, if I move the receiver upstairs to the bedroom, the picture quality does drop significantly :(. So it's possibly one to avoid!?

I'd also be interested in hearing any recommendations, especially for a multiple receiver system. I've had Amazon vouchers burning a hole in my pocket for a month now.

Like I said above... just stay clear of 2.4g which is what most of them are as these are on the same frequency as microwave, wifi etc.

Anything 5.8ghz should be fine and you will be looking at around £60+ for one of these. If you are going over a long range then £99+

Most shops do not exclude these from returns so worst case it doesnt work you take it back.

2.4g can work, but you are likely to have problems, especially with the ones that are integrated rather than having a proper ariel on them.

Most of them are the same device / chips etc in different casing and what works in one house wont work in another so its tough to recommend one. I have some houses with 2.4g working no problem while in other places only 5.8 will work.

P.s
most the sites have customer reviews such as argos and amazon, check those out too as they often list specific conditions and solutions etc.

Also remember that these systems are not secure like wifi, so technically anyone can 'tune in' to the video you are sending ;) Most devices come with 4 chanels so if by some stroke of luck the next door house had the same system then you could use one of the un used channels.

My Sky+ box RF OUT2 feeds the other rooms via a booster through standard coax, just so you know it should work. Picture is crystal clear but have intermittent problems controlling the box in the other rooms through the little 'eyes'. Can only think its the cable quality.
