USA domain idea

Another question, I have an idea for a domain name, but it's specifically for USA.
I can't get the domain I want, so whats the best ext to have. I have been given suggestions such of blog/shop/now etc

So my example is www.loveusablog.com

I could get Loveusa.co.uk but I am presuming this wouldnt go well in USA?

You should buy a .com for the American market.

Look at search traffic for the term via Google keyword tool and see if there is a high search volume keyphrase which contains the term.

Otherwise choose a good prefix or suffix, e.g. prefixes being get-, cheap-, find-.

I agree with the above poster. If it's aimed at a US market then go with .COM before .co.uk .

what exactly do you want to sell?

there are many variations of a name if what you want is already taken though you can go for .net and .org if they are still available.

Why not look at hyphenated versions of your domain name?

Once you've got to the stage where you have to add a "modifier" to your desired domain name, you have mostly lost out on the opportunity to pick up type-in traffic - so using a hyphen in your domain name is going to cost you very little trade, and the "spiders" will treat it just the same as the unhyphenated version!

You might find a hyphenated .com or .net domain to suit your purpose ...

Whereas I don't entirely disagree with you, there are cases where people don't know how to utilise the domains, but register them because they can see a market from search results.

For example, my latest project focuses on a keyword combo with over 4k exacts, that has potential to intercept trade from other sites lower down the "keyword chain".
Associated domains are all registered and awaiting offers, but nobody has put a site up - so when I set up my offering, I'm entering a "virgin market" for actual sales on that pair of words! When I am the only person offering real info to the world, and everyone else has ambiguous parked sites, I think my $ht will float ...

What I'm saying is that there are opportunities in some niches because people don't have an angle from which to exploit them. Spot that angle, act fast, and there is still potential to be found ... even in the US market.

Hope you don’t find you do all the work along come the tld’s and steal all your traffic…. …I have found if you do well those higher up the chain set up pretty darn quick if they smell a buck …4k exacts doesn’t give much to play with... but may give you the advantage that they think its not worth bothering for such small amount especially if they have higher exacts in there portfolio... but as long as it makes what you want it don’t matter
