What do with a high DA domain

Hi,

I have a non-.co.uk SEO domain.

Its background is in domain names and was owned by a registry.

Original plan was to 301 it to a target site - not exactly in the same niche, but it has a page in a very similar niche

Now, I’m thinking of just launching a new website on the SEO domain selling web design services.

Any suggestions as what I should do with it?

1. Find a relevant and high-quality expired domain
2. Extract its backlink profile
3. Find contact information for all the quality link opportunities
4. Reach out and let the linker know that they are linking to a dead resource/website
5. If they respond, pitch the idea of them replacing the dead link with a link to your website

Depends on the domain and it's previous reptuation. There is no blanket approach to how to best utilise previously used domains, it's a case by case basis.

Yes, which is why I gave you some advice on what to do with it. You can 301 it if you want, but the results won't last and you could get a penalty. Or, you can do backlink outreach.

That's not advice on what to do with it. That would be advice on what to do if you didn't have it, literally anybody who doesn't own the domain can do that.

Tech Blog? It's pretty easy to seed a blog and if the domains SEO metrics are good get it to rank for what 'outreach agencies' will be searching for for their blog post placements. Watch the orders come in for publication.

With all due respect Ben, your answer isnt related to whats been asked. I assume you've just read it wrong.

It is advice for when you DON'T own the name, are letting those who link to it know it has expired, and hopefully getting them to link to your website instead.

I’ve been doing some more thinking and leaning towards a web directory for the niche

Then once it gets settled in the SERPs transition it to a full blown web directory

I know they’re obsolete, but if it’s a high DA directory, it might still attract listings for links

Any thoughts on this?

I would get the old site from wayback if its avaiable and put it back on the domain, let it be live for a few months, then by monitoring the keyword rankings you will have a good idea if google if the links are still working, or if google has reset the domain.

As mentioned it was owned by a domain registry - I can’t copy their old website and content

Much prefer my idea and its more likely to work. I used to build web directories in the early 2000's - with notable exceptions they are dodos. Whereas, blog posting is a multi-billion dollar market. For longeivity of a site you need unique content, with the blog you have this, with a directory you dont without a shed load of unpaid work / investment on your part

Then use your brain and create something decent on it. Instead of asking people what to create. Why register an SEO domain if you don't have a clue what to do with it. Personally I'd build a website on it in the same niche and offer domains for sale. Not sure why you would take a domain that was registered to a domain registrar and then build a web design business on it? Does the domain have any old content on it? Or was it simply registered to them? Does it have a backlink profile? Or is absolutely worthless? Too many variables. I'd look at ahrefs and get the backlink situation before decided what to build on it. Then once I'd established some content I'd go and visit all the websites that had good authority from the backlink profile and I'd ask them for a link to the new website.

Thanks - something I'll consider - tbh the nature of it means I could melt the two together with a bigger focus on the blog
