What magazines are you reading?

I used to buy .net all the time but they take the P with prices these days imho. Use the excuse of a CD of £500 worth of software which I don't want! I can get a chart paperback from tescos for £3.73 whereas some magazines are 6-7.99 now.

Wired, but I'm not sure about the new UK version.
NewScientist. I've read it for decades.

If I want to dispair of the world I look at my daughters copy of 'Coooee' (or whatever it's called).

Wired does look good aswell and seems to only be £24 for the year.

I've still got a subscription for New Scientist, but I've given up on UK computer mags. I find they are either too simple or too jargon-laced.

When I go to France on holiday, I buy computer mags and read them. I find that, despite the language problem, French computer mags don't presume a level of knowledge as a pre-requesite to understanding the article.

I bought a copy of .NET about a year ago and I'm still trying to read it ... WTH use is WEB2 to me? I'm on a dial up. If I pay for broadband it only gets twice as fast as the dialup, unless I take a cable service.

You should not try to read modern computer magazine and expect to understand. It is not intended for understand or help. Only for look at pictures and screenshots so you can guess what will work - that is interesting experience.

You want computer understanding or help, magazine is no good, pay for man in local paper small ads. Only £20/ hr.

Yep used to read .net but gave up on it too - the days of paying lots for free software on a CD are long past. I remember when it used to be the best way to get the next version of Internet Explorer etc as downloading on a modem was too painful

Had a year subscription to Wired when it launched in the UK but didn't bother renewing that either. I think it's just trying to be too cool - lots of pictures and adverts and no substance.

I used to like having a read of The Week but I haven't bothered recently either.

I picked up a copy of New Media Age in London a couple of times when I was over on a visit. Mainly focused on the online ad/marketing scene rather than tech, but still quite interesting at times.
