Has anyone got any links to WP directory themes or WP plugins that change a site in to to a directory? Had a look at available plugins via WP control panel, but not sure they are the same thing I need, they appear to just be for a 1 page directory within your WP site? Anything for a full blown directory site, any recommendations, don't mind paying for a good theme/plugin.

There is the Premium Press. Not used the directory but the Shopper theme is very good. Takes a bit of setting up but thats because it can do so much but once you are there it is great.

Hi Jim,

Just having a look at the admin panel demo on that theme, looks ok and has the option to set up free/paid/custom directory listings, which is something I would want on the site, can't see anything to enable changing the background colour/image of the site to another image, as the background is quite bland.

Changing the background etc is very easy Kev, if you go ahead give me a shout and I'll go through it with you.

Cheers mate, just found the section for changing from the default to various colour background/column themes, but would prefer something a bit more themed to the actual theme of the domain, so your help would be appreciated :)

I'll see if I get any further offers on the domain by tonight, if not, I'll buy this theme and get cracking.

Just bought that Premium Press directory theme, I found a money off code which was HAPPYNEWYEAR for an extra 25% off, so $59 instead of $79 :)

As well as the photography site, I think I should be able to use this theme for penpals and narrowboats domains, I think they'll go alright on that theme.

Might invest in the Shopper Press and Classifieds Press themes as well if I like this one.

[edit]

By the way, that HAPPYNEWYEAR money off code above expires on expires on 31-01-2011 at midnight, Admin has his aff banner for it on his post here:

http://www.acorndomains.co.uk/wordpress/75108-premiumpress-themes-coupon-code.html

The BABYBOY code on that link has now expired so use the one above.

Set up a site at www.wedding-photographers.co.uk and been setting up geo area categories for bloody hours, now I just logged out and then had to log back in again to check something, but now I can't get to log back in to WP control panel

I tried the usual http://www.wedding-photographers.co.uk/wp-login.php url but that just takes me to a login page on the site like a normal site member login, not the usual WP control panel area that it takes me to on my other WP sites, and like it did on this site earlier, any ideas?

[edit]

If I go the main site url and click the "members" link, enter my username/password, it takes me to a page with this http://www.wedding-photographers.co.uk/wp-login.php url in the browser, but it's just a white page and reloading the page does nothing, ffs.

Did you fix this that last url you posted takes me to a customised login page

No, not fixed, still can't login to my WP control panel, that last url takes me to a login page on the actual wedding site, not the usual WP login page you get if you use that url, after logging in on that url, the page stays white with that url in the browser.

That is the correct URL to log in now.
Due to the way WP works the admin and users all log in in the same place.

@ Jim,

When I login to my other WP site, on the /wp-login.php url, that gives me the WP login page with the WP logo, but on the wedding site, it doesn't do that, the login is actually on the site itself, not the usual WP login page, even though it's the WP /wp-login.php url, really annoying me all this crap, none of this with html

that will be the theme including the login page within the site, some do others don't.

just add at end of url /wp-admin and that will take you to the login page where ever it sits.

@ Fish, thanks, but it's still a bit weird, if I add that wp-admin bit as suggested to make the url http://www.wedding-photographers.co.uk/wp-admin

It takes me to my main site, but the url changes to http://www.wedding-photographers.co...edding-photographers.co.uk/wp-admin/&reauth=1

I login on that url and it changes to http://www.wedding-photographers.co.uk/wp-login.php which is just a blank white page.

Then, if I enter http://www.wedding-photographers.co.uk/wp-admin in the brower again it takes me to my WP control panel, anything I need to change so I don't have to go through all this each time, I just want the normal WP login page

Which

Trust me, Its normal. There is nothing broken or any problems.

Go to /wp-admin, login and you will be at the admin side.

The way WP works is there is only one page to log in to. The theme requires users to log in so has skinned the login page too. So users dont get all scared that they used to be on a page about weddings and now they are on an unfamiliar page asking for their password.

it seems it is an instance of running 2 domains on one account with 2 separate sets of wp installations.

1st one (main) then the other as a sub folder on the 1st

Looks like whichever plug-in/theme function has taken control of your login sequence isn't coded to well. It seems it doesn't redirect you anywhere when you land at wp-login.php already logged in.
Just a minor bug when you get the blank page just use the wp-admin as suggested and your set.
Check if any of your plug-ins have updates available may fix the issue or if the logins being interrupted by your themes function file have a word with the developer to sort it as its a paid theme

@ Jim,

Well it definitely doesn't let me login at the wp-admin direct link, Fish has been having a look in the cpanel and he appears to have found a problem which might explain it, he said:

Just having a look and it seems you are trying to run 2 wp sites on 1 account. Unless you are using wp MU (multi user) you can't do this. The conflicts are occurring is because you have 2 htaccess files (as well as the wp files) and the server can't separate them to each different domain.

Ideally what you need is a reseller account, or a miniserver (virtual) or dedicated server where you set up as many individual accounts (domains) as you like.

Not replied to him yet as just logged back in, so will reply here Howie.

I can see what you mean, but this HostGator account lets you host umlimited domains on the same account. When I set up WP on a domain, am I doing the right thing, because there are some fields to fill out, but I leave them blank when installing WP, see image below for example, where the highlighted "install in directory" field is what I leave blank:

It says leave that field blank to install in the root, but as I don't know what that actually means, I just leave it blank, or am I supposed to put something in that box?

50p says its something dodgy fantastic is doing.
Drop me a PM if you want me to take a look.

Aha! for each new domain name you need to fill in the details on the form, that way it will create a new account (domain) where you administer them separately.

Thanks for the offer, Jim, but Howie has had a look and with his last post above seems I'm doing something else wrong.

Aha! for each new domain name you need to fill in the details on the form, that way it will create a new account (domain) where you administer them separately.

Yes, I filled in the password and username etc, the only box I didn't put anything in was that one titled install in directory, which says underneath it:

Leave empty to install in the root directory of the domain (access example: http://domain/).

Enter only the directory name to install in a directory (for http://domain/name/ enter name only).

This directory SHOULD NOT exist, it will be automatically created

Not knowing what that ^^^ means, I just left that blank to install in root, which I'm also not sure what root is, so it seemed best to let the system decide what's best to do.

What am I supposed to write in that install in directory box in future?
