Just curious if anyone had an early season flutter on them? The odds were eye-watering to say the least so congratulations if you had the courage to do so...

There will be a lot of gnashing of teeth at the bookies, that's for sure (they're predicting an all-time record loss on the result).

Anyone that would have put Leicester on to win the title would have been a Leicester fan haha, Lots of very happy Leicester fans tonight for more than one reason. Bookies due to loose over 50million I think I read yesterday.

Yes, you're probably right - almost all the winnings are going to stay in Leicester, no doubt.

I wonder if 5000-1 bets pay off more than 1 in 5000 times, on average? It would take a lot of digging through historical odds archives (if such things even exist) to find out... I suppose such high odds are very rare for any sport situation.

Id say start of the season punt most people would stick £1 , £10 or absolutely max £25 for an outside shot ( which at the start of the season it would have been an outside shot and a half ). If anyone put more than £25 a didnt support Leicester them selves.....................they've obviously got a gambling problem which has just paid off lol.

The bookies love it when outsiders win anything. The money they pay out on this will pale into insignificance compared to the money they have taken from the 'big' team's supporters.

Indeed, out-side wins like this will encourage a lot more bets at the start of the season for all the teams; I don't reckon anyone feels sorry for the bookies!

I don't gamble, but if I was a supporter of a specific team, I'd probably have put £100 down for a laugh (and to show my support); that would have been a very tasty pay-out.

its like the bloke who won a cool million I think it was when he placed a bet that Leicester would be top of the table at Christmas
My home team & can't believe I didnt place a bet

I was reading an article that said that the smallest 5000-1 bet placed was 5p. Now that's a decent return, but I just can't imagine going to the effort of working out how to place a 5p bet! It seems like such a hassle for such a ridiculously tiny outlay. Quite baffling.

5p ? why on earth didnt they stick a quid on it .. its a pound lol ... plonkers

I'm sure they are asking themselves the same thing rather than celebrating a £250 win :D

20 teams in the prem, 5p on each is just a quid.

Its the kind of bet my gran used to make. Covers all the bases, and if I won £250 from a £1 bet, I'd be happy. How much would they have got if that team who could have won, had won? (showing my interest here, no idea who that other team was, know they were playing Chelsea....)

Bookies will be loving it big time. Just before next season, thousands of extra fans will be placing bets, just in the hope that their teams can do a Leicester.

BTW if anyone spots BBC news, can you ask it to go back to where it should be. All weekend its been Leicester City Fan TV and getting on my tits.

Would still have rather a £20 outlay in that case for £1 on each

and LOL @BBC

I never bet accept for putting down £50 each world cup for USA to win. I don’t even follow football anymore but I am determined that they will win eventually, just because they are GO TEAM USA!!!!

I know very little about football, but I get the impression this is a once in a lifetime occurrence thanks to all the big teams faltering this season. Maybe a transition period for the big 4 or 5, young players, new management? Not taking anything away from Leicester though...

what you say has been a big part of it - around early January one of the leading football websites ran a piece asking doesn't anyone actually want to win this.

the big guns falling away, being "in transition" or having brain melts (Chelsea) helped, but Leicester had to go out there and win the games. considering just how close they were to relegation last season - with pretty much the same squad - it's all the more astonishing that they have done it.

as for the bookies, meh. if they pay out £10million on bets for Leicester, i can assure you they are sat on profits of 10x that (at least) from bets placed on Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, Man City, Spurs - the more usual contenders.

The 5p bet was probably Part of a 'Yankee' or Multi-bet. ie, a 5p yankee =£1.20.

I think everyone's a winner with Leicester taking the Title, certainly one of the Big Stories on The Global Sports Networks

Agree with Bob. The bookies have come out big winners this season. The huge loss stories are just clever publicity stunts. The massive amounts placed on other teams to win + the fact they would have traded the Leicester bets off means they would have come out with some tidy profits.
