Any feedback on the best business hosting,got to be UK

Also dedicated or cloud?

Any help appreciated..

For hosting you can always go with WebHost UK , Regarding dedicated or Cloud it really depends on your requirement , what exactly your site requires.

...but be careful, there is a strong suggestion that mtalk owns this host (and others). Look at his previous posts, all about this host. They may be a good host, but get recommendations first.

Rackspace all the way - been with them 12 years now and having moved from dedicated servers to cloud - we have only ever had one issue - their telephone line being down temporarily when we needed some complex zones setting up for email.

We learned 13 years ago that skimping on hosting - when you are an online business - is suicide.

I know things have changed but so have Rackspace's charges - cloud servers starting from £30 a month with complete control of scalability is excellent value for money whichever way you look at it.

We're leaving Rackspace having been with them for 8 years. Their prices and quality of service have both been going in the wrong direction for two years plus.

I no longer recommend them and would no longer consider them for any new servers.

The new Windows 2012 R2 Next Generation Cloud servers are about 25% cheaper than before, so for a 2GB RAM 'server' we're paying around £50 a month. I know you can get it cheaper - like £25 or 30 for similar - but it's the whole management and support package, their infrastructure etc. not just the actual hosting.

Based on our experience - there's no where that beats that - but unfortunately, the only way to truly find out is when you have a crisis! With a huge amount of reliance to keep our sites live, I'd rather not for the sake of what is a very minor amount of money.

To put into context -up until 2010 we were paying around £3000 a month to Rackspace for dedicated, RAID and load balanced servers with back ups - we've saved around 80% on that figure and have more servers of a far higher spec.

A customer spends time from their day to recommend us, I like to say thank you. Word of mouth is king for us.

I'm being told that its a good deal for that price.

But our tech guy says; I normally go with one of the Host Europe group companies, Webfusion, Heart Internet etc - mainly because their setup is solid, they are not reselling, own their own datacentres etc so theres no middle men involved.

The servers tend to be pretty solid, had very few issues with them over the years and the support is good

I think he was just thanking those that mentioned his hosting company specifically, not any recommendations. Was a little thrown because he said "recommendations", but there was only the one in this thread.

Yeah I guess so Ian and my tech says its a good deal. The downside is limit on the bandwidth.

Its for my property sales site and we expect rapid growth, a lot of importnt info that has to be mirrored/backed-up etc, etc and while I dont need this right now, I want to sign up to something today that I can upgrade and not have to shop about in the foreseeable future.

Maybe that's your experience with their cloud servers - but I don't actually rate their cloud infrastructure.

Our servers with them have always been dedi - approaching £1k/mo per box (Quad Xeon, RAID5, 24GB RAM, etc.).

As much as the price it has been the number of support failings. Shocking some of them to be honest.

We were with Webfusion for years but moved away after a server failure that took days for them to sort out and even then they were unable to restore a full backup. Luckily I had my own backup but the downtime was far too long and it was very frustrating phoning up lots of times speaking to monkeys who didn't have a clue - just felt helpless and was worried that search engine rankings would suffer from the downtime.
