I agree. I guess it is a combination of deteriorating economic conditions and the fact that people are continually getting wiser to what the good names are, so the supply of good names being offered for sale is dwindling whilst people are building their portfolios.

But then one way out of recession is to advertise more if your struggling for business - domains = a advertising medium which = turnover.
Perhaps domains arnt recession proof...

I am seeing less decent quality names for sale, and when they are they are not always cheap as chips.
People are more aware of what a domain is worth, and less likely to undersell it.
Glue.co.uk perhaps was the most recent bargain, and oddly enough that shifted pretty sharpish with lots of interest.
Good names with good prices always sell. Poor names poor prices...

There is lots of choice out there, the issue is that some people percive some as better than others. Obviously if you are a registrar then you may not agree ;-)
this does me head in this... not anyone can register any tld unless you have $250k for each name you like and the resources to set it up and maintain it..Here in the UK i dont thing users will even know whats going on much beyond .co.uk & .org.uk

I'm sure there are loads and loads of people out there who have enough cash to do it! I think it will just take a bunch of them (say, 100) to really really really hurt the domain market.

And when you do make a sale people are changing their mind and backing out of completing the sale process.
I sold the domain props to a forum member here who has failed to reply to any PM's that i send and has been a Acorn member here since Nov 2005 with over 900 posts why do people do it?
I believe he would have got the name at a great price he sent his offer in on the first day i posted the name.

not sure.. its not goign to go live for about another 18 months then on top of that the main tlds an ccTlds will have been embedded for over a decade - its goign to take alot of cash and risk to try and bring down domain prices

I still get a lot of offers through my site, although my prices aren't geared to sell as I prefer to keep my names.
So not sure, but their are still buyers out there, so might depend on your landing page. I found I got a lot more offers when I used my own site and not a domian parking site. Although down side is you lose a little revenue, upside is people can contact you through your site much more causually without the need to register.

I'm sure that isn't a major motive to be honest.
What are ICANN's motives in this? For 15 years or more, the system seems to have been tightly controlled and regulated, then all of a sudden there is a complete change of tack. For what is a relatively modest amount, any extension can now be created.
Call me a cynic, but if you wanted to deflate future arguements which question your monopoly position, then relaxing the rules is a pretty effective way of going about it!
