that auction was a joke..

why dont the sellers just except their mainly selling to domainers not richard brranson and take it on the chin there over priced..

I dont get that logic, I mean I as a domainer put a reserve on a name which I would be happy to sell it for.

Be it selling to Bob Bigwallet, Richard Branson of Dave Domainer.

Entering into an auction does not mean that there is any *need* to sell the domains, only if the expected price is reached.

It is quite interesting so far as £11k for Run.co.uk, £8k a pop for Mum and Dad.co.uk's was declined.

If anyone wants Ran.co.uk for a reasonable 7.5 let me know ;)

go go go hotcakes

sport was the star imo. the seller did right to put a big reserve on it.
God, what would mainstream tv pay for that in this country or media networks, football conglomerates etc.
a million dollar name on its day no doubt. a lot of the big boys are still not up to speed on domains & the net as they should be. it will sell in the future no doubt.
imo sex owner being greedy, but up to him/her.
lots of reasons why i would want to offload that one

spot on preds...sport is by far the best (regardless of value) it would make a killing this side of the UK london olympics... wonder if that has been suggested to the guy that owns it?

so there we go

I won 4 but reserves not met so lets see what happens

So who was I bidding against

Does anyone have a definitive list on how things panned out across the board??

Domains that made the reserves, ones that didnt, ones that sold..??

I cant seem to access it via Sedo...

The only two that I saw meet the reserve was engineer.co.uk which I think sold for 3,600 and daysout.com which sold for 10,300. There may have been others I missed though...

Rich :)

Do the sellers do the necessary leg work and inform big hitters that the domains are up for auction? Surely a phone retailer would bid at least 50K for phones.co.uk without even thinking about it.

I would say no they dont, likewise I dont think sedo goes further than emailing existing 'big buyers'.

I think at least three (one 'biggy') names will change hands in the coming weeks.

They do, if you ask.
First you need a good broker, rare, but there are a couple at sedo.
Then if you do some legwork yourself and look for potential suitors, if you provide them to your broker, they will email and ring them to notify that it's on auction.
They did it for me on a com sale i had. You have to ask sedo first, find the info & have a good broker & have the guys they spoke to understand the importance of a great domain for it all to gel.

You would expect for their 10% on some of the names there to be knocking on the door of all potential buyers :)

Totally agree. Almost all of the names for example of the calibre we saw yesterday deserved at least a couple of dedicated brokers ringing & writing to potential buyers.
To be honest, a name like sport.co.uk is so huge imo even a personal visit by a broker to some top people in either British Olympic committeee or ITV sport, JJB anyone. All these could pay a million without any difficulty & properly developed would reap rewards. It may need a good broker with great technical knowledge too though ;)

I mean look at the sale of Vodka.com
Yeah ok, the buyer was a billionaire & it is a 'category crunching name' lol, but it is a trophy name more than anything. It will get traffic , but bet its not earth shattering.
This sale was pulled off by the old owner, & a sedo broker i believe, they travelled to Russia to sell it.
They got 3 million dollars!

I think for these top, top names they & the sellers could do well to knock up a sort of brochure, like you would for a property, with stats, potential, historical data, past sales, the works.
Pretty graphs, whatever is needed.
I think would help. Not worth it for me and my uk's , but i have a few .com's i'm thinking about it with. Have a few friends who are trying something similar.
But like you say Rob, 10% is a healthy commission, and they need to do more.
Also the end times should have been staggered on the .uk & .mobi auctions imo. Ending all at the same time was stupid. No other word for it.

Totall agree with you Pred. These are cheap prices... sex.co.uk is a trophy and trophy property sells at a premium. It always will. If it makes some good click through cash and its capital value increases by say 8% per year too then its a great place to invest some cash for 5 years. Better than Northern Rock!

10% fee

If it was me I would be offering brokers 25%.

As probably 5% of the 10% is spent in admin before you start, so now as a broker you only have 5% to do work on the hope of getting a sale...at 20% a broker would do a lot more risky work

I used to do this when selling property I developed and it works a treat to get people incentivsed...tel them the min you expect and pay them well for anything above that

So why not do it?

If there is 10 people with 10 supreme domains each you would have a great £1,000,000 protfolio to promote, why not put them on a list with a reserve price the seller will accept and try and sell them..

With domains of value £10k and above your mark up could be considerably 20% if the seller enabled you to realistically achieve a decent mark up as such.

You may need a good developer and experience in pitching a service or product to large corporations such as JJB etc but one good sale could be a very healthy pay day.

Good luck if anyone tries it and let me know I have a few domains for the portfolio. :)

indeed

indeed, as is something I am best placed to advance....however

Domainers would have to give an exclusive option to me to sell....saying that it would be at a premium, furthermore any potential buyer could miss out the middle man buy accessing the who is and then contacting the seller directly.

Anyway, send me a PM with co.uk's that are worth 'traded' £10k and I will put some thought to it
