I'm having a couple of uptime issues with the hosting people I'm currently with (I use two different companies, and both seem to be as bad as each other ;) ). Neither company seems to be stable in terms of uptime, but they never tell me when the sites go down or when they are doing "maintenance" - it's up to me to see if I notice or not, and only then do they talk to me about it. A lot of "maintenance" goes on during the night - I guess because most UK people are asleep so they figure it doesn't matter, however I run a couple of US and AU websites, so these are my peak times!

I'm looking for a (UK) company who can provide an uptime guarantee, and if they go under the guarantee, the normal money back etc. I also want a company who will tell me when the sites go down, either by email or text. The current companies do have good support so when I raise a ticket, I always get a response within the hour, and they also makes changes to my domains (forwarding etc) really quickly, so this is essential in whatever company I move my hosting to.

I know I'm asking for a lot, but can anyone recommend me a company that they use that features all of the above?! There's so many comapnies out there, it's pot luck and I'd rather go with someone that's been recommended!

Thanks :)

Clem

I had problems with Rackspace.

The "fanatical support" just suddenly - puff - disappears if you actually have a problem.

All that premium for nothing.

I've used Rackspace for 5 years and have not had any issues with them.

On the rare occasion I have had to use their support, it's dealt with within the hour.

anyone prepared to hint on how much RS charge (because they dont ;) )- particularly the windows offerings?
thanks

I spoke to them online today and found them really pushy, and they type waaaaaaay to slow for my liking ;)

The girl I spoke to said I was looking in the region of £200-£300 per month (although this was on a Linux box - not specified by me because it doesn't bother me either way ;) ) and that I "probably wouldn't be able to get a deal for under £200/month with them on any package". I personally feel this is a little high, although they did say they had guaranteed 100% uptime, and in fact had had this for the past 5 years, which is interesting.

Anyway, thank you for all the suggestions so far. I have a few companies I'm looking at, but still haven't made my mind up :)

I joined them 5 years ago when they quoted £62 monthly and said it was a "grandad price", meaning it would never go up for as long as I had the server.

Still paying the same price.

They have upped the bandwidth. Used to be 50GB, now 100GB a month.

Now don't laugh, but this is what is running:
Hard Drive: 40GB EIDE
Memory: 552MB DDR RAM
Processor: Single AMD Duron 1300 1.3 GHz
Running Linux

Still going strong. Pumps out 40 to 55GB every month without a hitch.
