I'm not sure that joining ahead of a potential gold rush is necessarily an indicator of suspicious behaviour in itself.

Did you comply with the deadlines that were in place? The suspicious behaviour is that of Nominet, allowing new members that joined after the 3rd May deadline to participate.

@Siusaidh - There is a few things what makes me think that and it was created during the dates rob was being discussed and i know people have said something along the lines of "If nominet dont do anything then remove the rules" i could be wrong and i hope him or anyone does not go down that route - i just hope people dont think the only way to compete with people like Rob is by cheating because if it gets to that point then there is no return and it will ruin the industry for good, creating endless accounts to compete is ridiculous.

I just hope people dont stoop that low because if that happens then im out and my code can be made public for everyone to use which will hopefully kill any cheaters chance, ive been beating cheaters on my own so i know for a fact its possible and when i beat the cheaters it makes it more rewarding... Using the "Cant beat them join them" moto is as low as it goes, those that think they need to cheat to give them an edge are not very good at coding or networking.

I think the opposite, the more fake tags there are out there the quicker they have to act. Why are they burying their heads in the sands and hoping this will go away?

Didn't check, my fail. It's just that I have long-time connection with Glenfinnan as its my home territory, and I couldn't believe that the .org.uk of a tiny hamlet of a few dozen people was on the list. I guess it's the hundreds of tourists, many from Europe and China, who search to find out about the 'Harry Potter' viaduct.

Looks like you dont know what kind of a person Denys is.
He does not use his system with new TAG. This has been like this for a long time.

We need to be careful and not start a witch hunt.

There is nothing illega or law broken in getting a new TAG, develop your system or buy one to catch expired domain names and I dont think this is the basis of this thread either.

Also, Rob and Denys are not the only one that host TAGs to catch domain names either. This is not illegal or against Nominet rule either, what is wrong is colluding to use DACs to gain advantage.

Please, let's get facts and minimise our assumptions, not every new TAG will be associated with any of these discussions.

Adelere, im not saying its illegal but its not playing fair if 1 persons creates 20 tags for friends and family and "Pretends" that they are the ones catching domains but in reality one person is operating all 20 tags because then you get groups like that which work in shifts and each tag covers a set period of the day... im far from stupid and i know exactly what a lot of the tag groups are doing, some of the hosted platforms you refer to allow their users to select a time and no other user of that platform can select the same time.. therefore Tag A would cover 1-4 and Tag b would cover 4-8 and so on... Therefore cheating becomes that prolific it wipes out all competitive scripts that operate within the moral and official rules.

Furthermore, it seems rather odd that multiple brand new tags are created in the past couple of weeks which eventually link back to the same people, for example all those tags operated by tool.domains are pretty much run by the same person and all domains end up on 1 persons parking account, This is not what you are trying to say.. your trying to suggest that those people are within their rights to register domains... yes they are but in truth how many of these new tags are genuine domainers?!

There is no information or clue that says that TAG is linked to anyone.
This is what I am saying. If you have something that says a TAG is related to another, that's fine, but I cant see that here.

We are all as affected as you but we should not do any witch hunt on any new TAG.
Get facts then publish, until then, its just another new TAG to watch.

Im saying i hope its not, i dont mean Denys in person i mean the software he has.. anyway thats that, i think you have picked up on this in the wrong direction, people have been posting newly created tags for the past couple of weeks and will continue to do so... Someone, Somewhere is creating them and writing the code to execute on them.. I know for sure 200 people have not woken up on new years day and decided to become a domainer, write some code and target .uk domains then instantly create a DAN.com account and publish the domains with zero domaining knowledge or history!

Leave them to it, they will get caught in the end, they cant write competitive code and need to cheat by constantly creating new tags and pretending they are genuine domainers.. look what happened when RobM got exposed, he nearly ruined his whole business and thats what greed will do to people like tool.domains

Also, on a separate point, I don't think Denys was being literal when he complained to Nominet and said he might as well start doing the same. I think he was being rhetorical, and just expressing himself out of frustration. Lots of people are frustrated.

Personally, I stand by my view that this whole name-catching stuff is a shambles, whether through unclear process, or unclear enforcement. It's no way to run the UK's namespace.

However, I judge people as I find them, and Denys seems okay to me when I deal with him. Come to that, I still don't see any proven evidence that Rob M has colluded in anything either.

I do see a strong suspicion that the Bulgaria-based cartel have played the system. Playing the system, and trying to steal a march on everyone else, has been going on in different namespaces for years and years. So has collusion between Registries and Registrars, though I'm not accusing Nominet of that because, again, I see no evidence (apart from arguably making .uk registrations free, which then facilitated mass registrations by the big Registrars last June).

It's the system itself, in my view, that is the main problem. Ultimately it's just not necessary.

Meanwhile, Carry On Domaining! People play the system. Life's rarely fair. But as far as I know, nobody has succeeded in doing anything about it. Will things have changed by the big .uk drop in June?
